My Winter Garden

Just keeping the process going. I have a nice stash, have gifted, and now I'm going to try some other stuff. I planted 4 seeds around Thanksgiving last year (11-24-07), two C.Sativa and two C.Indica type bagseeds.
Of those two, one Indica and one Sativa seeds sprouted and have been growing in my growbox. Today I brought the plants outside and took two cuttings of each before switching the light to induce flowering.

I also have one of the original LB1's that is about 1/3 way through flowering. I set it out on 12-15-07 to flower after having taken two cuttings.

The two LB1 cuttings taken on 12-15-07 are doing well and will continue to vegetate for another month or so.

Always something new.

I have just discovered that my latest female is developing male blooms (aka bananas or 'nanners).

This is a clone of a clone of my original grow from last March that I call LB1. I took cuttings in October from another clone of the original LB1 before putting it into flower and veg the cutting in my grow box under 18/6.

On Dec. 9, 2007 I set this clone outside to flower and it has developed big beautiful buds.

While I was looking at the trichomes to gauge when to cut it and noticed the yellow, elongated blooms in the middle of my frosty fat nuggets. The trichs are just now turning milky so I could harvest at this point and get some decent smoke, but I'm considering letting the plant mature in hopes of developing viable seeds.

the original seed came from what I suspect was a hermi that my son grew in his closet.

The original plant grew and flowered normally, and two of the cuttings have done well. I'm pretty sure that this third plant hermied because of the gradually lengthening days since the winter solstice.

One of the seeds planted 11/24/07 (an indica type) turned out to be male. When I first noticed, I had the thought to let it mature and fertilize one of my LB1 girls to make seeds. I much prefer to use cuttings, but seeds are a lot more portable and don't require any of the attention that clones do.

When I discovered that my latest incarnation of LB1 was popping male flowers, I changed my plan to use the pollen from the hermie to fertilize some flowers for seed... so I cut it down.

On a positive note, the sativa type seed I planted the same time (11/4/07) is showing female preflowers.

It is probably a coincidence but so far, the two sativa type plants that I have grown from seed were female, and both of the seeds that produced C.Indica type plants were male.

ARGH the pressure!

I have decided to harvest part of my hermie and let the rest mature in hopes of making a few seeds. I cut about 2/3 of the plant and hanged it up to dry. Still a little green so I haven't trimmed any of it yet to get a yield. The remaining plant does not show any signs of harm. the branches I took were pretty woody and didn't bleed much after being cut so all is good for now.

Partial Harvest of Hermied Plant Yeild

I did pretty good with this plant that turned hermie on me. 1.78 oz. in the jar weight and I only cut 2/3 of the plant. I'm liking this a lot!

Since my hermie was trying to revegetate, I decided to put the remaining part of the plant back in the growbox to mature and hopefully make a few seeds.

Good luck. MJ does best when flowering in lower humidity and temps. Plan your grow backwards from harvest around the first frost (if you are in a frost zone) or at least temps in the 50's. My best harvest flowered from Oct. to Dec.

I did have one big plant last year..well two, but going forward I'm keeping them smaller and LST'd My outdoor grow this summer will be to make clones for my fall flowering.

Hydro Shmydro

I'm surprised the hydro clone was doing as well as it was. I checked the pH this afternoon and it was 7.5 EC was still good at 2.6

I brought the pH down to 6.0 and decided to let it stabilize before bringing down to 5.8 It took 50 mL of vinegar in 2.5 gal solution to get it down.

Using House & Garden Aqua Flakes A & B to specs for week one on their grow calculator.

The plant is making new growth but the tips of the older leaves are browning.

Getting Ready for 2008

Getting my stock ready for this year's main grow. I have seven seeds, 3 from one source, JB, and 4 from another, KB planted in peat pellets and one rockwool cube along with three clones from a sativa-type plant growing since Nov. 24. I don't know how good this bud is going to be since the momma is just flowering. I'm a little concerned because the buds (lots of em) don't smell and they're not sticky at all. If the harvest sux, I'll just trash those clones.

My other new clone, All-In-One is my entry into hydroponics. I don't know if this will survive, but it is supposed to have come from some killer, government issue strain.

I also took another three cuttings from my flagship plant, LB1. Even those cuttings smelled and left my hand sticky when I cloned them. This is definitely a strain I'm keeping for my fall harvest.
