Talking Here We Grow Again- Mazar, Blueberry, and Purple Kush

Well with our first grow cut and currently drying in the pantry; now all the attention is now on the next round! It was awesome to see all the different stages of life in there lately and even though I love harvesting I wish I still had a mature flowering plant around... They are just so cool!

When trimmed properly the buds don't look as frosty as before because of the crystal-coated leaves. If vaporizing these strains it would be best to just leave the leaves LOL on there because they are just absolutely coated with trichomes. I think I might have to dust the buds with kif in order to get them to look the way I want... Plus when they dry out they lose a lot of taste! Not good! I assume it gets better when it cures for awhile but we'll see. It might be best to keep this stuff fresh to preserve the great flavor and only dry out stuff that I want to kif.

*future edit after complete harvest (7/24/07)- the pot that lost it's flavor and crystal density when the leaves were removed was not the Mazar that won the Cannabis Cup. It's the stuff that formed under the light that is the real deal; it pumped up the interior with buds so when the leaves were removed it still had tons of crystals which allowed the taste to really come out of it, and remain after it dried enough to kif. The whole reason the stuff lost it's flavor and didn't look as frosty is because it wasn't fully developed to it's peak. Mazar requires a lot of light to do it's business to the max!

It was dissapointing to say the least to have your pot lose it's flavor over the drying process... It tastes normal out of the vaporizer though, and got stronger the more it dried. Vaporizing is just awesome for the way it brings out the flavor in weed!

But onto the journal!

Here are the clones about a week or so ago when they were about 4 days into 12/12. The Mazar stretch like crazy the second you flip the lights and the Blueberry just chills.

I couldn't decide on a mother plant for the Mazar so I decided to keep 3 special plants that I liked until I could decide. The taller one on the left is named Pretty Lady and has always been the most beautiful of all the Mazar in terms of foliage. It's huge leaves and ability to take stress better than her sisters was definitely noticed last grow. It stretches too much though for an indoor plant... I thought it was a lack of light intensity on it that caused it to be so tall compared to the others but this grow shows it was just a taller plant. I bet it would do well outdoors with lots of veg time with it's huge leaves to fuel the veg cycle, but there is nothing I can do to grow it indoors as well as the other two.

The other two are more similar in height and growth but the flowers are different. The one in the middle is named Shug because it was the frostiest of the bunch. The one of the right is named Miss Hulk because it was very vigorous from seed and it's flowers were the most beautiful out of the bunch in terms of the way they were shaped. This grow should help me decide between the two I guess.

This is the high-ph damage that using lemon juice with enzymes in the nutrient solution caused (the enzymes ate the juice and totally neutralized the acid in hours) It's all the lower growth though and will be cut off anyways.

Here they are waiting for their space to be cleaned out and set up

Before cutting underbrush

after (will need another final cut later)

90 degree bend for the Mazar to be even with the Blueberry... Best to grow these strains seperate from what I've seen but it's possible together with a lot of training.

Shug, my favorite Mazar clone right now

Here's the new gear we just got- new XL reflector with better spread (I'm getting another one soon to replace the other smaller one we are using), carbon filter that weighs over 40 pounds... Thing was ridiculous to hang LOL new Galaxy 600 and Eye Hortilux super HPS.

So now we are working with air cooled lights! Plus no more smell of growing plants! more wattage, better reflector, better ballast= better growth.

Here's how it looks!

Look at that giant thing! Isn't that ridiculous for an air filter???

Mazar side, trying to put more light on that one plant to get it even with the others... We'll see what happens. Going to be using side lighting this grow and the plants will be much more thinned-out with mostly serious colas and very little secondary buds. No bullshit this time.

Blueberry side- much more even canopy... Love the all-from-the-same-mother plants! They have much more room to grow and more light this time than their mother plus they won't be 5 feet tall having to carry nutrients up all that extra way... The parts that don't get any light will be cut off seeing what they do first hand this last grow. It's pretty sad

Galaxy 600's

So that's about it for the upgrades... Now here's the veg tent- the clones are doing better and Shug has just started her new 24/0 light cycle and veg fertilizer.

You can see the 3 main branches cut off... Amazing it doesn't show any signs of stress after harvest! It's not doing much right now but I'm sure it takes awhile for it to switch back over. Can't wait to see exactly what it does each day.

Take care everyone, hopefully this grow will be much better than the last!

wow man.. lookin real nice. Great setup!

Looks like i have the same carbon filter that you have. How's the tent handeling the weight.. i was thinking on mounting mine outside the tent cause i wasn't sure how sturdy the supports were.

Thanks man! Welcome!

It's better inside the tent because of the pre-filter, installing it outside will blow carbon into the pre-filter.

The smell that was in the garage is now completely gone though!

The tent handles the weight just fine- as long as you got a metal-framed HydroHut and not a HomeBox (which I have no clue about) it's totally fine. The bars bend, but there is no way they could come out with all that weight on them. I worry more about the straps holding the thing on the bars actually, and I shouldn't either. It's the way the pros do it, I know it's been done for years hanging the thing on the ceiling.

I would try hanging it first though, seems like the best bet considering the way it was designed to suck air through it instead of blow air out of it.

The one over the clones is a New Wave T5 light, a 2 feet 4 bulb one. I got it for my clones and was going to get the larger ones for full veg but I'm undecided right now. Switching bulbs would be a lot easier than taking down and putting up a bunch of T5's... But we'll see. I like the even spread that the T5's give for veg- it would cause very even growth with clones. But metal halide might be easier and less expensive too... Pretty big decision I guess, we'll see.

The other one is just 4 CFL lights connected using 3 Y connectors.

sounds cool i may try it.. i'm gonna try a sealed co2 system and see how that goes, but if it smells too bad then i'll scrap that idea and use the filter.
and ya it's a hydrohut as well, the 52x52 model.
thanx for the info man, and those plants are lookin great!

Oh awesome! Wish I could try sealed with co2 as well, but that's another thousand dollar investment... Good luck with it though! Should be amazing considering your experience!

Shame to waste the carbon filter, but hey it's not like the reason isn't good.

Hey everyone! The plants are just now developing their buds and have little budlets. The Blueberry started a little bit after the Mazar this time, I guess from the reduced veg time. Before they took only 4 days to start flowering, but that was with 12-13 weeks veg time, with a month for germination on top of it. This time it took about a week for them to show sex and about 3 days to start really flowering. The Mazar definitely is going off right now with the budlets though.

The temperatures in the tent have risen a little bit but not by much. (80-85) The extra 600 is definitely a lot more intense than the 400 was.

But the lights are about 18" from the canopy and I hope this time we won't burn the tops at all. The serious hot spot beneath the lights is definitely gone, but there is still some heat. I have no idea what will happen next, but my main goal for this grow is to not burn the tops of the plants. I have fans blowing across the tops of the canopy as well so I think I'm good but we'll see...

What do you guys think? Is 18" far enough away to not burn them this time???

Wish they looked as healthy as your plants cage', that Lucas formula keeps amazing me more and more... Plus you are using almost double the light in a 4X4 space than I am- going to be some serious Hashberry for sure! Can't wait to see the flowers after seeing the results from veg. If you get what I think you will off of $40 in nutrients and didn't have to change the reservoir or fuck with the pH you will be my official hero!

It works bro.as for my harvest..Well im not out of the woods yet.I may have to do some extreme training as I only have about 12'' of vertical space left before the light starts to get in the danger zone.in two weeks I can use direwolf's bud toping tek that nearly stops vertical growth at that point so if im still good in two weeks them im golden!!

Im sure youl get your feeding schedual worked out.learn to live by your meters.feed light and work up ppms alittle at a time.I try to keep it so the plants are eating at the same rate as evaporation. So basicly you just watch your meters & remember you can always feed them more but you cant cure a burn.

Talking It's Official!

I have grown the best smelling weed I have ever smelled in my whole life!!! Mazar is just the most unique, exotic smell I think I could have ever asked for. It tastes great, better than anything I could get- but it's the smell... OH THE SMELL!!! It's intoxicating to say the least!! I feel like I'm on top of the world when I wonder where my next bag is going to come from out of habit (the first pull ran out last night for me) and walk to a pantry FILLED with the best pot out there and cut a branch. It's just a dream come true and I can't thank God enough for this experience. It's such an interesting feeling to finally be able to satisfy yourself in an area that always gave you hell. It's a total reversal of the situation and a perfect solution to the problem. It really is something else.

Not only did I gain a hobby, but I completely took the stress of finding it out of my life, the money issue isn't there anymore... And the quality is the best it's been in years. It's just a dream come true! Everybody who smokes should grow their own pot!!!

Last night I did a couple hours of work to the garden, getting it ready for a serious flowering cycle this time. I cut off all the rest of the bottom shit I missed from when I first placed them into flowering and trained them down again, and cut off a bunch of leaves that were covering shoots and stuff like that. They look better this time instead of like I'm a total n00b that has no idea what I'm doing (5 foot tall indoor plants without side lighting??? What was I thinking??)

It's interesting though seeing them look so different and when I was finished they looked smaller but I knew that's what would allow the top to become bigger and them to yield more. If there isn't enough light intensity the lower part takes away from the top to support it, and putting lights in the interior is an idea but I want to concentrate on the cannopy this time. I feel interior lights would just cause the top to not be as thick and I want all the bud to be even quality this time. The plants under the light are so much danker than the plants that weren't, that's for damn sure!

That's about it though, the large Mazar is going absolutely nuts right now- I think I'm going to have to keep it's genetics out of pure principle and have two or even three Mazar mothers. It would just go nuts outdoors I think!

@skatestreet- thanks bro, go home and get stoned for sure!!!

@420-420
Yep, I got the clones off a total chance happening. My roomate kinda... Well... Has a large mouth and I'm pretty sure a friend of his who was growing knew he could grow them- why else would she offer them to him? Does she think we know someone who grows? (that personally??) LOL not likely

It's cool though because at least talked to someone who was growing too so she could offer us these clones. Getting more seeds would have been hard, I'm not sure who we could even ask to ship seeds to their house instead of here.

The pictures of them are the last few on my first post, they are the clones on the plate. I was watching your thread on how they would grow and how long they would take to mature, thanks for that!

They were different because they have been going almost a week now (not sure how long they she had them either, probably a couple days) with no roots popping out and no explosive growth either that clones do when they root. The weird part is they never wilted- my clones wilted and the second they got over the wilt they had roots. These never wilted, so I'm thinking whoever made them had something special he used on them.

Does anybody have any ideas on what was used on these clones that made them not wilt?

They also had started flowering a little bit so they are reverting back to veg, and they got hungry and ate the bottom leaves. I have been feeding them, I just didn't feed them soon enough. They sure are weird though, seems they would have rooted and took off by now. The new growth is lush green, but is coming out very slowly. I need to get them into a system soon, hopefully by Monday I'll be able to build them a system.
