Talking Forget the soil, importance of light in veg and harvest pictures!

Harvest!!!

Here's the colas curing in a tupperwear container, they were too big for a jar All the pictures are of Blueberry

Takin ya a little closer

Whoa! Too close!

Back it up a bit...

George loves that smell!

Some iso hash we made from the trim, stuff is insane!

That's it for the pictures for today, I'll get some more of the Mazar buds I have left. I decided to cure for a few weeks before I smoke them. I have a top piece of each Mazar plant in a jar right now- Shug, Pretty Lady, and Miss Hulk. I'm running low on pot for the most part but I have money to make it through to the next harvest. We didn't veg long enough and not under enough wattage either.

This time I can see an amazing difference from just the week that they have been under the 1,200 watts HPS- the stems are so much thicker and the little branches that come off the nodes look like bulldogs compared to the wimpy ass branches that come off in florecent lighting, at least low wattage florecent lighting. I'd imagine with enough T-5's you could get the plant to beef up like the HID does but I'm not positive about that. But I am sure about HID causing the plants to hulk out like I've always wanted them too, and I think that's a main problem behind my small yeilds- low light levels in veg.

I need to fill the space too with plants but that's a different story- if you vegged under bloom wattage (which should be veg wattage too now that I see what it does ) I bet the plants would develop sturdy enough without all the windtraining- all you would need would be some circulation fans so I wouldn't need to take up space with fans and just fill it with plants. I'm wasting valuable light at this point, but this is my last grow without a designated system and without a single strain all from the same mother plant. I won't grow strains together anymore from now on, and will be using a system instead of flying by the seat of my pants with 4 strains going and soil pots all over the place

The soil plants have got to go. I am very frustrated with them- the ph is out of whack on the vegging ones, and they aren't getting any light too. I've tried to correct it but I'm not sure if I've got it right... I know this is what I would have to do to learn how to use this soil right but I don't care anymore considering the growth in hydro and the ease of use involved. I just don't want to have to learn a whole other medium right now when the growth is so slow in the beginning... I'm sure I could get the soil to work with organics but I think hydro is more my style. I tried to get into it, but in the end I just don't like it at all. Having to water them, move them to drain, testing the runoff, medium holding food, fungus gnats, dirt spilling... I just like hydro better.

The bonsai motherplants are going to go in some special mini hydro system, I'm interested in seeing if it shocks them. I know once they get into a hydro setup with proper ph and food level they will be so much happier!

The flowering soil plants are weird though- the ph and food level is fine and they are doing well, so I'm not going to transplant them or anything. I don't want to stress them out halfway through flower anyways but they are doing fine compared to the soil mother plants and vegging plants. The Purple Kush one is my new favorite- it's like it's main cola is the whole plant, it doesn't even hardly have a trunk to speak of. It's really frosty for being under such low light levels in the beginning, it's getting lots of light now though, hopefully it turns out well. I'm going to cure it for a month before I smoke it so I can really sample it properly.

Pretty soon I'll be getting some new gear so we can flower the big Kush plants under the 400 and give the Blueberry and Mazar some room to spread out. We are going to have big plants again- hopefully not as tall as the first round but we need them bigger than last time. We'll just clear-cut the underbrush so that we just have a nice canopy of big branches.

But the main point of this post was to say that using a lot of light in veg causes the plant to beef out like crazy compared to low-level floros, and that means a sturdier plant frame to flower with and bigger colas too. So if you can, ALWAYS veg with maximum wattage- it is one thing that will increase your yeild over many factors.

Take care everyone! Thanks for stopping by!

Nice pics, as always.

And I love the one with the quarter. It helps give a newb like me some perspective, especially if you consider I've never actually seen the buds in person lol. Somehow I had the impression that the colas everyone was growing are as big around as your fist and mine just didn't measure up. Gave me a bad case of cola envy .

Turns out that my buds aren't so small after all.

Ya they weren't as big as the first round, but that's from not vegging as long and never using HID in veg. Big mistake if you are trying to grow enough to last you until the next harvest...

They are pretty big but not THAT big... Some strains get huge colas but they usually aren't that special when it comes to the high and taste.

Awesome to hear your buds aren't as small as you thought, you deserve it for all the hard work you've put in.

I'm yeilding so poor considering my light I'd half expect people to at least comment that I could do better, especially considering the constant burn... I mean it was less than a pound total, so I got less than 8 ozs for all I put into this. It's great pot, just not enough of it! I'm glad you guys see it as good stuff though, that's what matters most, you are right.

I was just fishing for a response though LOL Thanks for stopping by guys! It's great to see ya on the thread!!!

Thanks man, really great to see ya again! Wish I could smoke some of that hash with ya and all- when it's dried out enough it tastes really good. If you scrape it up a little too early it has this chemical undertone to it, have you ever had some like that?

I can't thank you enough for the Lucas formula and waterfall technique bro it's just been working out so great lately. Words cannot describe my appreciation- I don't have to adjust the ph but once or twice a week and I haven't changed a res in over a month. I also really enjoy the sound of the falling water in the morning. Gives you that, "everything is A-OK in there" feeling.

Mini Purple Kush, new round veg, curing Mazar pics

Winding down, damn near the whole crop has been smoked already. Still got a little bit left, but it's mostly gone. I'll be smoking mids with a little dro here and there until next harvest, which should be in about 80 days or so. We still have to start flowering the new round and I'm not sure how we are going to go about it. I want to take the Kush out and put it in the 4X4 under the 400 watt HPS, but I need some room to make big mother plants for the next round... I need 32 cuttings and my roommate needs 16, so damn near 50 cuttings! I'm thinking of converting the one bookshelf the nutrients sit on into a mother box and putting 2 or 3 waterfall systems in there with a Mazar and Blueberry mother. I think I need 2 Mazar plants and 1 Blueberry to get that many cuttings in a couple months of veg growth from clone.

So we'll see what happens, it would be a lot of work to spread the plants out in the 4X8 because the tube lengths only allow them to be spread out under the light, not moved all around. I didn't have very much tubing left over to work with.

I also pulled all the vegging soil plants last night, they were very wimpy and unhealthy so I decided they were a waste of time to take any further. They were suffering would have yeilded a couple grams total considering what the flowering mini plants did, so I couldn't keep them. The roots were healthy so I'm sure I was just feeding them wrong at the wrong ph and not giving them enough light- but I know how to do it with hydro so I give up on the soil for now. I'm working on getting my bonsai mothers into hydro setups before I kill them too, I can't get the feeding right to save my life with them. They are very unhappy right now.

Anyways that's about it for the narrative. On to the show!

The mini Purple Kush! VERY impressed by this plant! It smells like a type of pot I wanted to grow this one time I was tripping on acid and smoked some grape fundip-flavored weed that hit like a hammer. I'm really excited about it because I think this strain may be some of the best yet if it's anything like that. Mazar is great, but this stuff is more of a taste I've actually looked for. I'm talking intoxicating smell, this plant is very special to me.

And here are the ultra-beefy vegging plants, this is the Blueberry side, getting really bushy

This is a bulldog looking branch that is caused from high intensity light, compare to our last set... Straight wimpy compared to that!

Mazar side... Can you spot the stress-resistant Pretty Lady? LOL look at how green she is compared to her sisters. She's as hardy as the Blueberry.

This is Miss Hulk, she grew into the thickest bush I've seen in my garden- I'm amazed by it. I think it's from 3 times more light for over a week. The difference in amount of growth and how robust the growth is changed drastically when placed in under the 1,200 watts 24/0.

Look at how many more strong branches there are compared to last time!

This picture of the trunk doesn't do it justice for some reason... Gotta get a better picture of it. It's huge.

The Purple Kush in the middle- stringy little beasties aren't they? I have to put them in the 4X4 in flower or they will be definitely shaded in days when the Mazar stretch. Considering the mini Kush plant I'm really looking forward to seeing these larger plants flower out.

And now last but not least... The curing Mazar buds. On the left is from Pretty Lady, middle is Shug and the right is Miss Hulk.

Difference in frostiness- Miss Hulk

Shug, plant is something serious

Welp that's it from me for now, hope you enjoyed the journal thanks for watching!

If you're fishing and not catching anything, maybe you should change the bait?

Naw...in all seriousness, you're pics are always amazing. Wish you lived near me, I'd bug you for some clones lol.
