I was up last night trimming and training the new round to get ready for the 1,200 watts of HPS. It'll be some work getting them into the new tent but it won't be that bad. I'm going to hit them with all the light I can for awhile.

I'm going to be vegging them under the HPS for at least a couple weeks before flowering them, I'll take some pictures of what I end up doing with all the small flowering plants and how I end up flowering all the hydro plants. I'm trying to get that extra 400 watt HPS going too but I need an inline fan for it to go in the 4X4.

Man what a lot of work the garden has been lately! We harvested the rest of it on Friday and I set up the new round in the 4X8 to veg for awhile. I spent Friday night working on the garden by myself I was up to about 9 in the morning working. Probably worked about 16 hours total that day between the job and garden.

The root systems on the plants were much healthier than last time and it made cleaning the buckets a lot easier when the root systems came out in mostly one piece. But cleaning the hydroton is a pain in the ass... I just poured out as much as I could and whatever the rootball held onto I threw away. I still saved over half the hydroton, but didn't have to work so hard to clean it. Still totally messed up my bathroom over the course of this project... It's clean now though

The black rubber tubes that the system uses had this coating on the inside of them from the advanced nutrients that had to be removed, it was practically clogging them. I had to squeeze the tube, pinching it and rolling it to get the stuff out. It was one of the hardest chores- it reminded my of a Karate Kid project. You know, where Mr. Miogi (sp?) gives Daniel son the ridiculous tasks that involve the same motion over and over again?

"Pinch the tube Daniel son, and roll it back and forth. Then flush it out with water. Pinch the tube, roll back and forth. Pinch the tube. Roll back. And forth. Then flush it out with water. It is done when it flushes clean. I will be back in 5 hour"

My wrists got one hell of a work out. Then I went wakeboarding yesterday... So my grip is pretty spent today LOL

Anyways it was just an annoying part of growing- having to clean the system. I'm sure I could have used a cleaner to speed up the process though, just didn't have the time or money to get it right now.

After cleaning the system I had to wipe down the whole tent with bleachwater because of the hermi problem, and needless to say my whole garden was a mess along with my room and bathroom. I was up all night trying to get it done after all, the sun was up and shinning when I went to bed.

After I set up the buckets for the new round I moved the plants over and installed the fittings and plugged in all the tubes. The whole time my flowering bonus weed plants had to get light. Shouldn't be that big of a deal, I just keep them in light for about 5 extra hours one day. Oh well.

But it was a lot of work to get it all done, writing every detail would be boring LOL it was hard work but it was like I was possessed. I'm looking forward to getting a system worked out that will be uniform every time so I don't need to take it apart and set it back up every time!



But the bonus weed plants are doing well, soil has been an interesting thing to learn about how it works. I can't wait to try weed grown soil organically one day, but for now I'm just keeping it simple with the GH food. I'll try it out one day though, probably some Pure Blend Pro or something like that. I want to see first hand the difference.

The Purple Kush has just started developing it's smell! It's like grape flavoring!!! It's also as frosty as Shug would be at this point!!!

The Haze plant is also started to shoot up and get bigger- it's root system is now down into the bucket so I've learned the roots do grow in flower, early flower at least. It's getting a lot bigger though and is not maturing like the others. It's spitting out lots of preflowers and doesn't have any frost on it at all. Can't wait to see how long it takes, it's probably been 3 1/2 weeks already. The Mazar, Blueberry, and Purple Kush are maturing and the buds are setting, but the Haze plant looks far behind. It actually looks like it wants to get bigger before it flowers now that it can have a bigger root system.

I'll take some pictures off all that has been going on, the vegging Purple Kush look like they didn't like the amount of food I had them on when I first put them in, it looked like it had a slight case of nitrogen toxicity so I decided to put them on the other spare system and veg them with less nitrogen, using the bloom formula instead of the veg formula I had them on. It hasn't been as healthy as the other strains it's whole life and I think it's because it doesn't like the amount of nitrogen in the 3-2-1 GH veg formula I was using. The Blueberry and Mazar loved it though!

I can't wait until I can experiment with nutrient strength and type when I move out on my own... The waterfall system will allow me to really dial in my nutrient strength because I can put certain clones on different strength formula or with different strength suppliments. I will just run a pump and drain to a seperate reservoir instead of the main line.

Anyways I'm bored and wish I didn't smoke the Mazar so fast... We only have a few colas left and it won't be dry until tomorrow. The Blueberry looks extra funky this time though, I'll let you guys know how it smokes and take some pictures of the harvest for a final journal entry.

The thought of having to clean out the tiny tubes that deliver the flood to my plants is worrying!! The cleaning up of the grow space afterwards is horrid.

I need to just ask you a small nooby question if you don't mind: When I go to 12/12 do I put the HPS in straight away, or do I wait until pistils show or something. I changed it straight away last time, but they do veg for just a bit longer while developing sex so I am curious. Now I've written it it seems a silly question, but, ya never know!

I'd say to leave it under the blue light until it's done stretching, so it stays more compact.

I wish I could use these special Hortilux Blue bulbs... They will grow a plant full term with full spectrum lighting the whole time (more like the sun, plus the light is 'blue' in appearance but has just as much usable red as an HPS bulb) They don't come in a 600 though...

I over fed my plants moving them into their new home- I kept the light high not to shock them (don't know if I need to but just being safe) and I forgot they wouldn't be getting full intensity light. I caught it quick but the even green color is gone on a couple plants it's coming back but it's still annoying. Next time I'll be using better air cooling for my lights so I won't have to introduce them to the heat from it. It's also very hot in the room and it could use a bigger fan anyways... Not a perfect environment that's for sure.

I can't wait to grow in a more controlled environment with constant variables... Being a n00b sucks...

Still waiting on the rest of the weed to dry, but hopefully it will be done by tonight by the latest tomorrow. I'll get some pictures of what's going on though.

I'm growing powerplant 2 weeks into flowering, so got a way to go till harvest.
But I'm praying to the weedgods for sugary buds like that.

Here's the Haze plant that has been really surprising me lately... I thought it was a hybrid because it just wasn't growing up before flowering first- but after a couple weeks in it's new system, it's growing up for sure. It's probably a foot tall now.

So, your "mini" plants are clones, I'm assuming? Did you let them veg a little more after they rooted or did you move them straight to 12/12?

(I'm sure you've got that info in this journal somewhere, but you've got so much going on at once that I'm getting confused lol).

Here they are when I put them in, they had rooted and had been growing for a couple weeks in a propagation tray. They had veg time but with a very small root system so they didn't get very big in the time it took for them to root and then get planted into soil a couple weeks later.

The little Kush plant is so gangsta. It's just like a little bud coming out of the soil, and it smells really good. Like grape flavoring or something artificial grape smelling, like Fundip grape if you know what I'm talking about. I think I've smoked it before and thought it was called Grape Ape, but now I think it was actually this Purple Kush from the way it smells. It totally reminded me of it with the smell- the stuff changed taste on the exhale, it was really special stuff and very strong. I'm really hoping I'm guessing right and this is what that was!

The soil is a pain in the ass though, I'm having Ph problems with it and the bonsai motherplants have a very strange thing with their runoff TDS being very high even though I've only fed them once- less then half of what it's reading. The plants look fine though and the Ph is great on the runoff on them, but the larger soil pots that are vegging have about 6.1 Ph on the runoff and it's not doing them good. A couple leaves are getting some spotting and they look sickly. The TDS is fine on them though, it's really weird that the bonsai plants are reading so high and they are healthy compared to the larger soil potted plants.

I raised the ph up with 8.2 ph water to 6.7 and hopefully they turn around. I wish I could have got them down to 6.5 but I'm predicting with another feeding it will be fine.

I just have to learn what ph to water at so the soil doesn't buffer it down too low, and figure out what the hell is up with the TDS being so high in the soil in the smaller pots. Maybe it's just a wrong reading and I need a new meter- this thing has been seriously acting up lately, it won't even read 0 ppm water anymore, it will only read it if it has nutrients in it for some weird reason. I'm getting new meters though, I need them for my grow when I move out. The tri-meter is my roommate's.

I want to try doing hydro bonsai motherplants. I like how it's so easy to control how much you are feeding and at what ph in hydro.

I forgot to take pictures of my stash last night... I didn't get that much off this last grow... Can't wait to fill the tent with plants and get an actual good yeild instead of these pathetic n00bie grow yeilds... I mean it was less than a pound total I'm sure of it, pretty sad. I smoke a lot so a bunch of it is gone but I'm doing my best to save it- got some mids so I can cure it a week or two but I've been smoking it anyways and the mids is collecting dust

Sooner of later though I'll get a system down and I won't be dealing with running out or low yeilds. I want to have enough so even if I lose a crop I'd be OK, and then downsize the grow to fit my personal needs because I know I'm going to overkill it with these 3 600s but I don't care. I need to at least get my technique down and have a big, grower-style 10 packed mason jar stash. I just want to actually not worry about running out and in the future I'll downsize. But for now I could use the extra weed for sure.

I've read a couple of posts from other hydro growers where they say the mothers don't do well in hydro so they keep em in soil. They just grow too quickly in a hydro environment I guess.

Also, if you're really going to bonsai one, part of the trick to keeping them small is to deliberately allow them to become root bound. This can't happen in hydro lol.

I will keep the root systems very small in containers similar in size to a 4in pot, when they start to grow too fast I will simply lift them up and chop the roots. Much faster, cleaner, and easier to control the environment with my type of experience. I may get the soil down yet, but I will still try it out because I think it will be much cleaner and easier to manage with the right setup. It might just take really small containers to get it to work right, but I'm interested in a hydro bonsai plant

That could work. And you've certainly got the equipment and space to do it . Me, I think I'm gonna be stuck with soil. I just don't have the room and really don't want to spend any more money than I have to on this next grow lol.

It won't require much space at all, should be very small if I'm going to get them to grow slowly. It's more thinking of how to build it and finding the parts than expensive I think. It's a pain in the ass to build things too, but it's still fun when you finally get the damn thing working right
