**Now With Pics!** 1st Grow N00b Hydro White Russian

Sorry no pics yet: bought me girlie a camera for Xmas so I will nick it off her and see if I can work out how to take a decent picture...not much to see yet anyway.

My God, N00b City or what...read on!

You might want to refer back to this post to read and laugh at the inevitable bollocking I'll get from the Wolf.

Totally pissed off with the weed business so I decided to grow my own. First thing I got was the 400W Sodium with ballast. Have LIVED on this forum for the past week reading and reading and now I need to read it all again I think. Got my White Russian seeds the next day. (see the description here: http://www.everyonedoesit.com/online...ProductID=1162

This kinda coincided with me reading how to germinate seeds on here and I thought I'd have a little experiment and both seeds opened. "Too late now," I thought and decided to pot in compost until the hydro system turns up. I read a post that the Wolf had contributed to and he was asking what nutrients were in some soil a grower had bought from Wallmart, and I thought, "That's a good idea I'll have a little look at what I dumped my expensive seeds in a week ago. Well it was compost....CACTUS compost ROFL!!!! Doesn't say what's in it apart from mentioning the presence of peat.

Right.
I've got one seedling, looks pretty strong, but this is very early to be making judgements.

But it's under the WRONG LIGHT!!! It's under the 400W HPS. MORE money spent on an MH bulb that I should get tomorrow or the next day.

Here's everything else I've been spending money on but have not received yet. (Hopefully should get to me this week)

100cc Plastic Nutrient Measure Syringe
GH pH Test Kit...erm, this is no good as it's a five buck one, must get proper one!
BioBizz All-Mix Growing Medium Soil 50L
Fleximix 40 x 38mm Propagation Cubes
Small Heat Shield Complete
Easy Roller Grow Light Room Hangers
Wilma 4 pot complete grow system
100mm 160m3/hr Complete Extraction System
400w Complete Grow Light System

You know I said I bought an MH bulb? Cost me about $80....just bid on another one and I think I'm gonna get it for about $2......HOLY CRAP I wish I'd waited....anyone need an MH bulb?

The set up is in my basement. The chimney for a fireplace in a bedroom leads right down there and there's a hole in the wall that I covered to keep the draught out......so that's where I can plug my extractor fan....that's handy!

Ha ha the MH bulb is mine for $2!!!!!!!!!

All I have to do now is receive all this stuff I've bought and build a cupboard into the space I am using to grow.

Photos to follow.

Dierwolf be nice!!

Managed to cancel order for expensive MH bulb, so that's cool. Had a little chat with my main dealer

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Starfish-Supplies-Ltd

This dealer very worthy of a plug because they have been very very helpful.

New stuff being added to the list:

Much weaker hydro soil for seedlings
PH tester (Bluelabs truncheon)
PH up and PH down

Girlfriend's camera completely foxed me. I'll ask her to help, but when she sees I want to post here she wont be happy, so I may not get away with it I'm afraid. Later on when the plants are a bit bigger I should be able to work it out myself and I will post.

At the moment I have just one seedling with the first 2 jagged leaves healthy and more growing from the middle. It's probably about an inch and a half tall.

So that's week 1 gone.........

Seconded. Great people, generous too. No real-world shop as far as I can tell though.

So that puts you in the UK, and if they did have a shop, them being your main dealer would put you quite close to me geographically.

Which kinda begs the question; Where are you?

Indeed, they're trading from Briton Ferry, which is Swansea way. I think the 'moving' story is a bit of a joke btw.

Made me laugh, did that. Nicely ambiguous.

I'm in South Wales.

Doesn't bother me too much really, if he'd been closer I may have said where I was.

Not so. People talk all sorts of rubbish on the internet.
For example, on the bikegirl forum I am a 28 year old, sportbike riding, blonde dominatrix with a loose grasp on morality, and a foul mouth. I am actually, only one of those things.

More pics. Biggest one about a month old now....I thought it would be taller!?!! The biggest one only has been topped. Bit worried. My attempts at LST have been scary to say the least, but these attempts are before your very eyes. I gave up LST on the big plant because I waited too long and when I did try I was wasting my time and my plant's health with stupid little bits of wire DUMBASS!! Still holding off somewhat on the nutes as the soil has some, but the big plant has been fed twice now. Trying very hard not to overwater....STILL waiting for mylar...STILL haven't actually built the cupboard to go around this...but have now got the extractor...can't install that until I build the cupboard. Humidity/temperature control a bit of a nightmare. Have now angled the fan towards the light to dispurse some heat. This I decided to do after lowering the light 10cm ish.
STILL waiting for pH truncheon...apparently Bluelabs are holding off for some reason! So I don't know about pH levels either...tempted to get a cheap soil test kit.

***ANY FEEDBACK VERY WELCOME PLEASE!***

Hey thanks Bud....I am now realising why getting feedback like yours is important.....really eases the worry!! The tips of the tiniest leaves at the top have yellow tips so I may try getting the fan closer to the light.
My main worry is the size of that plant after 4 weeks?? Surely it should be bigger? I've seen amazing things on these forums after four weeks. As you say though, maybe it is because I started under the big light....in-fact I started the big one for a week or two on HPS until I got the MH!

Grow room needs sorting fast now...mylar included...

Now going to go read Dierwolf's LST thread....how many times is that now??? It's not rocket science, but I do some, then have to go back and read again to check...like everything with growing.

They look sweet, but seems that you had kept this lamp in minimal distance. I have found, that when you start plants under HPS they do well if you keep lamp 2.5-3 feet away from tops. It helps them to start in they own tempo and they do not stay so compacted, what does help in LST. Than come down to 2 feet after 1.5-2 weeks and start training. By then they will be tall enough to avoid lavest touching soil after LST.
You just have to find your own method.
Plant nr 1 for me would be big enough to start thinking about 12/12 easy.
Just do not top it anymore and when you swich light to flower cycle keep your eye on LST cos it will streach loads then.
Good Luck.

Wicked....thanks maaaate!! I'm impressed you think number one is ready for 12/12....right cheered me up hee hee. Well hopefully another 2 weeks veg waiting for the others will help not hinder.
I topped just plant 1 once only. I have left the others and am not sure whether to top them or not yet.
I have plenty of giant paper clips now to use for LST. Perfect for the job!
