IslandMon's 1st grow. Early Misty, Fox soil and CFL's

Nice grow buddy...
The buds are coming out nicely with those cfls.. although HPS would have been better and made a bigger yields and colas I think CFLs are the way to go for first timers. I'm using cfls for my first grow and i'm sort of happy i'm stuck with them for the first grow. Cuz when I do my next one I will be a bit more experienced and will be able to understand more factors that lead to a healthy strong grow.
Anyways good luck on ur grow... It'll be fun to see what the difference is in yields. mmm Is early misty a high yieldling strain?? Can;t wait to see what those buds will look like when ready and how much it gonna weigh...

P.S. I am using BioCanna line-up and feeding program and I feed them on mon, wed, and fridays. 1 L per plant with the nutes.

i can't wait to try the HID lighting. I am actually very excited at a new home possible. If it all happens I will have a dedicated ROOM all for my projects! I actually started this 1st time try with HID's, but didn't have proper ventilation then. Looking back on it, I really should have kept the HID setup and changed my venting ( somone told me to do this when I started...sorry should have listened) as I went, I added quite a few CFL's and I bet they are very close to the heat the MH put out...damn, no icon to kick my own head!

Anyway, thanks for the comments hangook...I'll go take some new pic's tonight!

Hindsight is always 20/20, on the bright side you got lots of CFL bulbs now for side lighting!

Hey chimera...it probably was you who said upgrade your ventilation, when I had the MH/HPS going and hi temps...20/20 hindsight...no kidding man!?!?

So my baby has gotten quite large, but I believe it has finally slowed down on the verticle growth. Two of the tops are up in the ceiling of the reflector, and one is growing sideways now...should be ok.

I think Wednesday the 21st should make 5 weeks of 12/12. So far the only complaint is the bud size. There are lots of them, but damn they are little, lol. ( be nice first time Floro ONLY) The closet is definately smelling perty these days, and if I touch a bud moving things around...ummmm ummm, smells good!

In a couple of weeks, give them a shot of PK 13/14 or any bloom/bud booster.

Yeah, it was me that said to upgrade, but you were to upset a the time with your heat issues to hear what I was saying, but thats OK, I knew you'd get the point once you dumped enough CFL's in there. Hell, I was called an ass for telling a poster that stream water doesn't contain enough O2 for plants to live in. But, thats OK, cause I'm here to give advice to those who want it and the rest are posers, who only want to here is how cool all there ideas are and you know I'm not going to do that.

With all those CFL's (522watts worth) in there, it is probably as hot as the 1 400 watter...but you knew that already hu chimera? My venting is so much better now...if in doubt, shut up and do what chim says.

Just to clarify for my anal retentive self, bloom boost?? Do I add that to normal ferts, or does it go in all alone? Do you recommend a specific type/brand. As with ferts, should I start the boost 1/4, 1/2 strength, or is this a one time deal??

^^ Thanks for stopping in WhatCounts...nice LST work on your grow BTW, I'll have to try it on my next. I like seeing other CFL grows too. BUT, I hope this is the last time, lol. I would prefer huge massive buds over small suggar buds. Grow-n-learn though right!? If my venting was where it is today...I would have stuck with the MH/HPS for sure...next time!

With PK 13/14 (I currently use this) you only use it once at the recommended dose. Depending on the type of plant you give it anywhere from the 3 weeks before they finish or around week 5 for the average indica and a little later for some sativas. I don't have any experrience with other booster additives, oh and you use it in conjuction with your normal nutes.

Since I am unsure as to my strain, I am still guessing it is the one I bought, happy medium, week 5-6?? I take it you are leaving at least one week for flushing at the end? Just one more ?? for this post. Not knowing time, going to have to look at trichs, how long before harvest should I stop ferts?? I imagine it will a bit of a guess-timate to when it will be ready! I am asking, about how long no ferts before chop time?

Been a couple days, so why not post some new pics right!

I was complaining about bud size in my last post...yeah I need to shut up and just be patient. The 3 tops of the plant are coming along very nice, fattening up and all. The buds on the sides of the plant I have finally started tying them, not like LST, but just tying them so they are 2 inches from the lights. I did this 3 days ago, and I can see a very good change in the buds that are now nice n close.

The top shots are tough for me to get, the camera is being held up in to the reflector and I just hope that the camera is pointing at the right place. I'll do a lighter next to the tops soon for size comparo's, but they are actually pretty big...in my noob opinion.

The closet is smelling just wonderful nowadays too. I saw my baby on Tuesday then again yesterday, and dam nthey did fatten up in 2 days.

I turned 12/12 37 days ago...got first white hairs 4 days after 12/12...soooo am I about half way through flowering??...the seeds, according to the web site, take 7-8 weeks to flower?? I just got the pocket microscope from the shack yesterday...I was playing with it, and DAMN it's hard to get a good look at the trichs. I know it is early for me to do that, but just wanted to see what I could see. For the brief moment the trichs came into view clear it looked like the calyx was completely covered, not much green to see at all...anyway, if any of you guys have microscope viewing tips...I'm all ears.

BTW, it is VERY hard to not pop off a nug and smoke it...it smells sooo good right now...can't wait to see what the next 30 days does for my baby.

Another thing I was thinking about. Since the tops are clearly farther along then most of the other buds...I wanted to chop them first then move the light down to blast the lower buds for a time. Is it Ok to do that, to behead the plant of it's tops, then continue to grow the lower part?? Is there a specific place I should cut, do you do anything with the open wound??? I know it's still early, but wanted to know best approach at this. It will also produre buds at different trich stages...I think!?!?! Or maybe I'm just rambling....

based on your last post, I put you at about 4 weeks in flower, so yes, about half way, maybe just a little less with cfls. in my experience, the lower buds matured quicker than the top cola, but either way I've read that you can top it if you like at just about any time, the rest of the plant will be fine. if you cut just use sterilized blade, should be fine. the real time to harvest is when it is to "your" liking. for ex. west harvests a couple of weeks earlier than chimera and I, just a matter of taste. peace
