Hawaii skunk x7 cabinet grow

This Grow officially began on January 1st, 2007. I will time-line the details in to this day as I have in my record book.

This is my first grow journal, 3rd grow, and I hope to learn alot this time around. I'm doing a few experiments along the way that you'll see. Please dont make rude comments about any of my techniques, etc.

This grow I have purchased 12 hawaii skunk seeds from a seedbank. They are not feminized. Hawaii skunk is an indica strain, you'll notice the fat blades of the leaves and also note their small size, of which is caused by 2 factors that will be explained later.

Timeline:

Jan 1st -

I've selected the 8 healthiest looking seeds from the 12 that I purchased and put them between two sheets of damp paper towel, sealing it in a ziplock bag. I'm putting the bag in a cool dark place for germination.

Jan 3th -

All of the seeds have popped, I'll allow germination to continue in the bag for 2 more days.

Jan 5th -

*Experiment begins* I've cut 5 water bottles in half, saving the top ends and the bottoms. I also have 3 small seedling pots. I have filled the 3 seedling pots and the 5 water bottle bottoms with soil and planted 3 seed sprouts root down into the center of the 3 seedling pots.

I've then placed the bottle tops upside down into the center of the soil filled bottoms and filled the top's cone half full with soil. The remaining seeds were planted in the top cones.

Explanation: My hypothesis is that the seedlings will create a strong root system faster than those in the regular pots. The reason for this being, that the soil in the cones can become dry again after recent watering, leaving the bottom's soil wet causing the roots to stretch. We will see if we have faster plant developement in these than the regular seedling pots.

Jan 6th -

The seedlings have sprouted to the surface.

Jan 7th -

The seedlings are getting bigger as you can see.

Jan 8th -

All of the seedlings are roughly 3/4 inch tall

Jan 10th -

One of the seedlings has died due to a serious ph problem. All the plants were effected and the bottom leaves were burnt slightly. I have fixed the problem and I hope the rest of the plants survive.

Jan 13th -

Growth is coming fast, they're all roughly 2 1/2 inches tall sprouting fat, healthy leaves. The ph problem last entry didn't cause any further harm. The root system is fully developed in the cones so they will be removed and the seedlings transplanted to the bottoms.

Jan 14th -

I've made a discovery . Today I noticed that all of the young plants were already sprouting new branches at each node. In my last 2 grows, this didnt occur until roughly 9 inches of growth. I believe this is because it is a skunk strain, meaning its going to be a stout, bushy plant. I also think that this may be because the plants have reached their vertical growth limit in the size of the pots they are in. This is good for the design of my grow, I will change the pots into slightly larger ones in 2 days.

Jan 16th -

Woah!! I've just discovered something very strange in one of my plants. It has grown 2 mini sprouts from the root-system. I think I have a retarded plant. I am removing the sprouts, they wont get very big and they'll waste the plants energy.

I've placed 6 of the 7 plants in 3 large pots that are seperated by mesh screen in the center. They will stay in these until flowering.

*experiment ended*

Experiment conclusion: The 5 waterbottle seedlings were at average of 18% larger and healthier than the 2 remaining seedling pots. The technique was mildly effective.

Jan 17th -

They're looking fine and have taken quite well to the transplant. Two of the 7 plants are yellowing slightly. I'll feed them tonight for the first time with some 10 5 10 and suppliment some co2.

Jan 19th -

Looking beautiful, were up to 5 nodes on 3 of the plants and 4 on the remaining ones.

All 7 of the plants are doing well, They're getting big enough now and need serious ventilation so I installed a fan and sprayed the leaves down with water this morning.

Also, I've decided that I'll be sexing them starting on the 25th or when the 6th node is fully developed on all plants meaning it could be soon or it could be later.

Right now I have 3 32w-6500k cfls, however on day 1 of flower I will be adding 3 more 32w-6500k's for a total of 12,600 lumens.

keep, that light, '' right'' on top of them, you dont want any unessasary, stretching, with a cfl grow!!

have you thought of a little lst, just a little, to maybe get about 8 nodes going before, switching the light,

also when you lst a plant it makes it release a hormone that exites the plant into growing, well good luck,!!!!!

They have been under the light for 2 days already. It's going to take roughly 40% longer to sex since they are so young, and since they arent flowering yet, in the next week and a half while they are sexing, they will continue to grow vertically to atleast 8 nodes, which is why I decided on 6. As I said, I'm doing an experiment with sea of green since I've heard alot of controversy over the tactic.

The lights are roughly 3 inches away. They will not stretch anymore than I want them to.

They say that scrog and lst is more efficient than sog. I've used both methods already filling up the entire space I have to grow with every time. All variable of growth each time is basically the same other than that. I will later compare to see which has produced the most amount of bud... They are different strains though...but it shouldnt make a giant difference.

i can see the reasoning behind that, my 1 LST'ed plant reminds me of a SOG (10 main colas)... although the veg time to get the plant this big took longer than a SOG would to get a bunch of clones or seeds about 8-12 inches tall... i think people should just leave people to use their own methods (as long as they work)... some people dont want to take the time to LST or ScrOG... its a pain..

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. All but one of the girls got killed in a cop raid when they were forced into a tight space where they suffocated for 8 hours. The good part is that the police didn't find anything... After the police left, the plants were severely damaged and turned herme except for one. The plan was trimmed and put into veg for 3 more weeks. Now it's in the first 2 weeks of flowering with great success thus far.
