First Grow

Hello All,

I've just begun my first grow ever. I purchased two types of seed, Crystal and Purple Power from Amsterdam Seeds, and was also sent a free packet of seeds. Unfortunetly, the ink smeared on the plastic packet and so I'm not sure of the variety. I'm going to use these seeds for my first grow in case I mess something up horribly.

Some information -

Son Agro 400w HPS light
Stealthydro 6-pot Bubbleponics setup

I've not yet built my grow room. Planning it now though. It will be in my basement, which is about 60 degrees during the day now. I'm really hoping that the HPS light will keep the temperature up to the recommended range. Purchased mylar.

Day 1 - Soaked seeds for 24 hrs in tap water after rubbing them lightly with a file.
Day 2- Layed seeds in moist paper towel and placed in a warm room in darkness.

I soaked my rockwool cubes in some pH 5.5 water a bit prematurely, I believe, since the seeds haven't even sprouted. Does anyone know if I should keep the cubes moist or let them dry out and rehydrate them in a few days when the seeds are ready to go?

Sounds like a great set up, pics would be great. I grow in soil, so not sure about the roockwool cubes. I would let the cubes dry out till ready. Good luck.<O</O

Last night I saw that the paper towel had dried out and the seeds did not feel moist at all. I re-saturated the p towel and placed in a plastic seed-starting tray with a clear cover to help keep the moisture in. I did notice that some of the seeds had split or cracked a bit, hopefully they were not shocked by the drying out.

also keep the temp in the container around 80-85 degrees F, and keep the paper towels moist, i usually wet mine once and dont even have to add water because mine sprout within 48 hours

It's been about 48 hrs now and we have sprouting!

I bought some rockwood conditioner, and will use that on my rockwool tonight, although I'd already soaked them in pH-lowered tap water.

Hopefully my HPS light will show up any day, but for now, I'll keep my babies under a flourescent tube in a warm room.

It's been a few days, and things are good for the most part. 3 out of 6 seeds have sprouted and have began vegetative growth. One has even shed it's seedcoat and I can see two little tiny green leaves. One seed has broken in half and I don't see a root forming, and one other seed isn't doing anything.

I put the tray with all the rockwool cubes and seeds under a flourescent light, 16-18 hrs a day. Temp is about 75 degrees in the room.

Still waiting for my HPS light to arrive, and still building basement growroom.
