Mr.Klauz - Grow Journal #1

9/4/06 - Day 1

This is my first attempt at growing.

Yesterday I took the 4 seeds I had germinating in my ziplock container and put them in soil.

The soil is Scotts Potting Soil with a rating of 0-1-0. 35-45% sphagnum peat, perlite and a wetting agent.

Did some research for germinating. Some guides say I don't need any fert, some say to use a certain amount, and others say use soil that has a certain amount already. Well The Scott soil has only 0.01 P.

For my first watering I used Vigora Root Stimulator rated 2-5-2.

I let the water drain for about 15 minutes. Put the seeds in about 3/4 inch deep and covered with plastic wrap.

Plant 3 sprouted in under 12 hours, The other plants sprouted in about 20-24 hours.

Plant 1 currently has no light (will get one ASAP).
Plant 2, 3, 4 have there own cfl which is about 1-2 inches from each plant. The bulbs are 23 watt and I believe 900 lumens each.

Pictures coming SOON!

I have a picture of my newbie setup.
There is also a picture for each plant.
Plant 1 is still in the dirt because it has not light.
Plant 2 is looking OK.
Plant 3 has something around it not allowing it to open.
Plant 4 still has the shell on it.

Is plant 3 going to be OK?
And for plant 4, should I give it a day or two to see if the shell falls off?

9/7/06 - Day 4

I got Plant 1 a light on Day 1. I picked up a 2000 lumen bright white cfl.

Plant 2 has been having light problems. When the light went out the first time a picked up a new bulb. It's a 27 watt, 1200 lumen, daylight cfl. However, it is out already, so I think it's the light bulb socket. Will be picking up a new one later today.

Plant 3's leaves came out of the seed lining and seems to be the best one growing. It's still under my 900 lumen, cool cfl.

Plant 4's seed fell off on day 2. It is also growing well with the 900 lumen, cool cfl.

I will be watering today with the 2-5-2 ferts again. My next watering will probably be with a fert with higher N levels.

Will the pots I have the plants in, be big enough to carry them through preflowering?

nice setup. youll probably want to get more lighting and 5 gallon buckets from homedepot, drill some holes in the bottom and those will be your pots. if your going to transplant do it into one of those otherwise wait till you have one of those. you should only transplant once to reduce stress

dont fert again!!!! and dont overwater... and those pots could be big enough, just depends on how long u let them veg... the general rule is: u need 1 gallon for each foot of growth

9/13/06 - Day 10

First, I traded in my 4 cfls for a 400W MH - LOT OF LIGHT

Second, my plants aren't doing so well. I have gotten many suggestions to flush the nutrients out, so I'm working on that.

The light is about 2 feet away from the plants. Is this too close, too far, or OK?

Plant 1 and Plant 2 aren't growing too fast.

I thought Plant 2 was dead this morning, but somehow it revived.

Plant 3 is growing at an amazing rate compared to the other 3, but is showing yellowing, light green colors, dark green colors, and cornering at the tips.

Plant 4 is starting to show the same signs as Plant 3.

9/24/06 - Day 21

You didn't think they died did you?

All plants seem to be growing healthy.

Plant 2 has really stretched and I may need to make some sort of support for it later.
Plant 3 is beautiful.

Also, my closet is smelly. I like to go in there and just sit for 20 minutes and smell the air.

I want to begin pre-flowering in a week. Does a week sound good?
After I determine the females I will move them into much larger pots.

Is it time to start fertilizing yet?

10/2/06 - Day 29

I made a couple of changes over the weekend.

- Many people have been saying the stems look thin, so I have added a fan.

- I have begun adding nutes. I'll continue to water every week, but only add nutes every 2 or 3 weeks depending on how they seem to be taking them.

- I put back in the cfls I had. Plant 4 was stretching. I don't think it's because of the lack of light, but more light can't hurt, right?

Plant 1, 2, and 3 have all been growing nicely. They were getting droopy and plant 3 had some dieing leaves, but once I gave them some nutes they came back nicely.

Over the past week plant 4 has been stretching. It seems to stretch within 24 hours of watering it. 2 waters ago it stretched nearly 3 inches. And last water it stretched nearly 2 inches.

Also since they don't seem to be 100% stable I will hold off a while on pre-flowering.

But, in a day or so they will be transplanted into much bigger pots. I will also start planting 3 more from seeds.

Nice setup.
Everything looks good except your soil. If you have been on the board for a while (which you have not) you know how much I hate Miricle Grow, Scott's and some Shultz soils. As you can see by picture number 3 on 9-24 your plant is showing signs of slight over fertilization. Anyway, as long as that does not progress up the plant, you should consider yourself lucky that you only picked up a bag of trace added nutrients instead of the full NPK and time release soils that all the aforementioned sell. Oh and the guides that say to add ferts or ferted soil to baby cotyledons are wrong. Anywho, they look good and should be fine now.

10/6/06 - Day 33

So my plants haven't really grown much for the last 10 days. Here's why:

no room for the roots!

Well I got my soil ready for plant 1:

Here is plant 1 before the transplant:

and after the transplant:

I will transplant plant 2, 3, and 4 tomorow.

I'm also making a "special" grow box for my next grow. Just playing around and experimenting now.

Oh, I'm 100% i over fertilized my plants, but they seem to be doing ok now.

Good move on the transplant. They should start to really take off and grow 24-48 hours after transplant. Good luck.
