Do you know the ph of the soil in that little mentally challenged and handicapped seedling? If it is fine I would not worry about it because sometimes our children are just born deformed.

Like in my first grow I won't bother to check out the pH or ec. I think that's for pros only!
I buy general (flowering) potting soil pH 5.5 - 6.5.
My first grow proves that this is acceptable for a 5 month grow so I know I'm good there since adding nutes lowers pH.

My first grow was like having a go at growing after reading quite some : build a box, throw in lamps, fans, seed in pots, and add water. Basic grow : just get it working.

This second grow I made a few tweaks to the growbox. Better light, better reflection, better ventilation, better germination = more power in general. Odds are vastly in my favor of having a better grow then the first. Since my plants are growing fiercly I'm planning of doing some serious topping/LSTing now I know it doesnt stress the plants enough to make 'em go hermie or worse. That will be the last change compared to my previous grow.

My next grow I'm still fantasizing about. I could :

1. insulate the floor
2. build a good excess water container custom size for the box. Now the excess water just runs on a plank onto the floor.
3. mount lights on the wall
4. throw in some leds
5. forget about topping ; lst alone SOG SCROG whatever.
6. worry about pH
7. worry about temperature control
8. try the blacklight thing
9. things like grafting and making stems of different strains fuse.
10. go hydro

God know what kind of combination of techniques I'll end up with.
The idea is grow/smoke as I learn.
I read a lot of good things on this forum.
I also read a lot of nonsense.

Whilst smoking and not buying weed but growing enough for myself I can learn so much through experience.

And I enjoy upgrading my grow box soooo much.
I'm an experience guy not a theoretical guy.

Compare growing weed to having sex.
Reading about it really doesn't do the experience justice!!!!!

They started smelling since day 2 of 12/12.
No signs of sex yet, we need to be a little bit more patient, see for youself :

I expect to return to vegging in 5-7 days.

My last grow took about 10 days to clearly show sex.
But I check every day and will switch back to 18/6 as soon as possible.

Day 035, preflowering day 8 :









The plants are going strong.
No signs of maturity yet, I'm getting impatient with this preflowering stuff. They are oh-so ready for LST.

I also found out that my plants like being close to the fluro's.
Most people say go for two inches (about 5 cm) but my grow demonstrates that 0.4 inches is possible.
Good thing that I am stubborn and stupid enough to ignore you all and try it myself.
(It's actually wisdom not stupidity, for I realize my growbox is not your growbox and your plants are not my plants).

Sure, some strains don't like it, some boxes have crappy ventilation, some growers are just like parrots they repeat what they hear and assume it to be true :

Knowledge is no match for experience.

My X-men plant is really freaking out (top picture, plant at the top right).
Not only does it show a pattern of leave damage (big gap in 1/2 the leaves) but also half the leaves have a maximum of 6 fingers. The other half of the leaves have 7 fingers.

Maybe I can put cuttings of my X-men on Ebay for research labs to purchase.

UPDATE : Day 38 since seed, day 11 of preflowering :









They are running @ 23 Celcius (73.4) with the humidity through the roof (97% ).
It's being raining for days on end now, a bit of a traditional problem for indoor growers in this country. And I allmost always have the window open because I smoke (quite some) in here right next to the growbox and to lower the concentration of 'that nice smell' by diluting it.

I threw in 300 ml of nuted water in there, not because they need water but I think they can use some nutes by now. Half the water came out of the pot straight away. I promise not to water them anymore for at least 1 week, probably 2.

GOOD NEWS:
JIPPY! I've seen the first V-signed pistil hair in there. I have at least 1 girly. I made a few photo's but none of them are worth posting here.

BAD NEWS:
One of 'em has got balls, I think. Probably male, I'll give it 1 or 2 more days to be sure and then CHOP CHOP.

Check out my X-MEN plant. I dunno what its trying to grow as a top, its green but thats one thing I know for sure :



I have seen another plant on this forum somewhere with 'similar' deformations (excluding the 6 finger and gap-out-of-leave pattern). That thread blames it on pH being too low, which could be. I say could because all my plants are in the same soil from the same 2 40L bags, pH range 5.5-6.5. Maybe this proves some strains of MJ are more low pH tolerant then others, I'm not sure.

Does anybody know?

It doesn't matter to me wether THIS plant is bothered by too low a pH or not.
I was asking in general for people who actually did measure.
If the X-MEN plant gives me any crap or shows sex last I'll axe it.
It obvious that is having problems and thus a lower carbonassimilation rate.
Its more of a 'see how freaky it can' get thing than anything else.
