clear this up for me, i was under the impression that clipping that many leaves and schutes would stress the plant and stunt the growth?

Lookin good, but where are those lil pubes?? i like em young, but my favorite is when they hit puberty and the lil hairs show up!! yumm! haha

His clipping was perfect, much more than that and they could indeed get over stressed. Also, over pruning can be one of the few causes of hermies. When pruning anything, the plant takes most of its energy to healing the pruned areas. Therefore, there will be a day or three of little to no growth while the plant regenerates the pruned areas. Then, all should commence as if nothing happened. In urgr8est's case, I would not be surprised if after the initial shock, that he sees a marked increase in growth. Now with the old detritus off the plant, and old fan leafs off, light and air can now penetrate into the plant where it could not before.

On plants that are revegged you get a bunch of little bottom growth, mixed with the old bud, and old growth. It will all die, and rot if you dont take it off. That isnt going to hurt the plant, if anything it will help the plant, because it can focus on the tops now.
I am not a fan of "lollypopping" plants, I mean I dont do it. But I am always seeing people, chop all of the bottoms off of their plants, just before they flip their lights. 95% of the time, it causes no damage, and does exactly what they want it to do. The plants focus all of their energy on the tops, and end up with a shitload of big fat colas. Rarely will this cause any problems. The times that it will cause problems are when it is done, IN flowering or when someone takes too many clones off of a mum. When too much growth is pruned when the plant is flowering, it starts to think it is going to die soon, so it focuses on finishing, and you actually get less yield, instead of increasing the yield. This goes for fan leaves too. But if you just cut the bottom growth, which doesnt receive much light anyways, it rarely causes any problems.

Glad to hear you guys approve of my clipping!
After all this was my first time.

And here's another first timer you will probably approve :

Here's my transformer assembly. Mounted on a brick with alu tape.
Subtle not?
Even if the transformer starts to emit light itself, my box won't burn.
Notice how I made the wires a bit pulling-proof with insulated copper wire covered in glue!

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1461/p1010003ry3.jpg

Fresh bulb, a few dents in the reflector looks worse then it really is :

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5282/p1010005nm3.jpg

I mounted the lamp in the correct orientation:

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/3198/p1010008mi0.jpg

Lamp on! Notice the funny purple/orange color distribution pattern on the wall.
The lamp is turned on for 5 minutes or so. Funny to see how the lamp starts white, goes red then orange.

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/182/p1010009uq0.jpg

Bright, bright, bright!
I'm afraid to open the box with the curtains open at daytime.
If I do the whole room lights up orange.
Monochromatic orange quite an eye catcher!

http://img331.imageshack.us/img331/4827/p1010012pc8.jpg

So that's what 56500 lumens @2100K look like!
I put the light at 80 cm from the plant, thats about 2.6 feet.
Ofcourse today I go 12/12.
Nice lamp no?

LOL

Looks like the lamp can be lowered a bit. If it wont burn them, the lamp can be between 18 and 24 inches. Everything is looking good!

UPDATE DAY 203 : REVEGGING DAY 56 REFLOWER (12/12) DAY 5

High everyone!
I'm getting a really good feeling about this HPS thing, my plants are loving it.
All 3 are going full speed ahead.

My brush with Phosphor def/too cold soil temps/fungus seems to be solved.
See the story here:

UPDATE : DAY 210 REVEG DAY 63 REFLOWER DAY 12

@SmknVTEC : Yeah buddy, I take this stretching due to flowering and HPS issues seriously.

@Brazyjay : not quite. The symptoms are disappearing/far less, but still I pick an occasional leave of the plant with the same P def symptoms. The soil temperatures however reached an all time low 9C/48F this week.

This must be one of the coolest grows on GC

It's been a while since I've posted an update here.
I've been getting a lot of 'the page cannot be displayed' errors the last week for GC.
And I've been busy combating what appeared to be nute def. related issues.
As it turns out the pH of my soil is shit.
The soil runoff is pH 5.
The tapwater I use is pH 8.
The tapwater+nutes I use sometimes is pH 7.
So I'm guessing the buffering effect of the soil is not on my side anymore.
I suspect H+ ions from being released from the soil somehow, probably due to a chemical or biological 'decompositioning' process.
So I've hit the pots with 50 grams of chalk each. It's the stuff they got from soft-stones and not clampshells so it's the good stuff for my purpose.
This should kick a nice dent in the pH problem.
I have about 6 weeks left to grow so whatever I do must be effective soon.

The reasons I started checking things are :
-red/purple petioles, I've seen them for months and I despise of them
-the new growth being way to yellow, not good
-the occasional dead leave at the bottom showing P def signs. allthough this symptom seems to be disappearing.

Let's see if I can improve things.

Here look at this pictures and see what pH 5 does for my plants :

plant 1:

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/8725/p1010021av4.jpg

And then one last funny thing.
The mysterious drops of water on my plants are back.
This is the third time in all those 210 days I see some of them.
I have no idea where I got these :

I have a theory. I noticed when one leaf rested on another, sometimes in between it would sweat or something and there'd be wet spots on the bottom leaf.

Hope you get your troubles sorted out soon. Can't wait to see that forest of buds again. Peace....

UPDATE DAY 214 REVEG DAG 67 REFLOWER DAY 16

Plant number 1 has suddenly decided the confirm the pH problem,
look at this textbook example of what happens when your pH drops like a brick, for the rusty spotting is a classic sign :

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/7267/p1010008gb3.jpg
Old news really since I started measuring pH since last week,
Bacteria living on chalk should be fixing that as I type.
Still funny to see how many different colors green this plant has produced through time.
Some of the petioles are so damn purple its nearly black.
(black petioles not shown on this picture)

Can't say I'm seeing bigger buds/flowers appear on the plants yet, compared to last time's result with fluros.
Perhaps the soil is holding them back more this time, perhaps the difference is best shown later.
For the rest all is as well as can be expected, plants 2 and 3 are taking the acid soil with grace.
Check it out, please notice how I need to use a chair to make pictures from above plants 2&3 these days :

(massive trees ahoy!)

I've been checking your grow out for a while, glad to see that you finally went to the hps, now all thats left is for you to go hydro and not have to struggle fixing pH problems.

Good luck.

No offense Chimera but I'll be damned if I go hydro.

I like the Earth.
I like the soil.
I like their 'imperfections' because this gives them 'character'.

Hydro grows are a bit to acidic for me.
I think soil grows make for more mellow smokes.

Some plants, some worms, some spiders and some ladybugs, some bacteria in the soil and even some fungus for the roots. Then press 'play' and mess with the 'grow-eco-system' while it's online!

I like playing God and receiving MJ as wages.
