Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

I know there are some scuba stoners on GC. Shout-out to all the divers.

In what other sport are you allowed to strap an 8" stainless steel knife to your leg and swim with sharks?

This is me ^^^

I just got AOW (advanced open water), night, wreck, boat, naturalist, and equipment specialist certifications. I went on a three week trip to the BVIs basically to judge whether I want to get really into scuba diving, and the answer is FUCK YES. I love it.

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

I've always wanted to scuba dive. However, I live nowhere near the ocean and it seems like quite an expensive thing to do. And, I've always thought of scuba diving as more of a hobby than a sport.

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

I'm a PADI Master Scuba Dive Trainer and have been for 8 years. I lived in the Florida Keys and taught for 4 years and had a blast. There is nothing quite like it.

I will say this, most things that carry risk such as diving are better to be done while sober, however, I spent so much time underwater that it was second nature. As a professional I must say that you should never try this unless you a completely sober and clear headed.

I was underwater 5 hours a day, sometimes more. If you are very experienced, scuba diving while high is out of this world. An unbelievable experience.

If you haven't been scuba diving, I highly recommend it. Going to an aquarium is cool, seeing these creatures in their natural habitat is 100 times better. Weightlessness, Bright colors, fish darting around, whats not to love...

Where did you get that turtle picture? Looks very familiar...

Props to you man, that is a sick job and a sick location.

Let me tell you: I worked this summer full time, 9-5 every day in this big corporate cubicle farm. Every single day brought me closer to buying a one way ticket to Palau or something to become an instructor. It was terrible haha.

But yeah, I only have 30 or so dives under my belt, and I wouldn't even think about diving high until I had 100+. And even then it would be max depth 40ft, because being high + being narc'd, i wouldn't trust myself.

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

Im back to cube...

I went from IT, to scuba diving, back to IT...unfortunately scuba diving doesnt pay near as well as consulting. However, I'm 3 weeks from leaving the cube life once again...I can only take it in doses.

Isn't that the truth. End of December I'm headed to Provo in Turks and Caicos, should be some sweet diving.

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

I love diving been a few times, ill find some underwater pics an put them up in a sec

Edit: Here's a few, this is my first time with using an underwater camera btw :P

The first 3 are on photobucket because GC doesn't let you attach more than 10 photos

Btw I was staying in Bonaire (small Caribbean island) in the "Black Durgon Inn", really recommend it, just jump off the pier in your dive gear like a 20 meter walk back to your room

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

I've always wanted to try SCUBA diving. I really enjoy being in the ocean (probably because I live in Missouri) and I have always wanted to go deeper/longer under water. I will probably try it when I move to Australia.

Re: Scuba Diving...aka best sport ever

NAUI diver for abour 2-3 years now. Absolutely love it.

And what is all the NAUI/PADI difference. It seems to me that PADI is much much more common, but the NAUI book is so much more open, you really can write what you want.

I have NAUI open water, and PADI coral reef conservation and project AWARE. yes it is possible to cross-certify. I do want to get my advanced diver soon, and eventually get divemaster. But first i would probably pick up night diver and maybe some others. like nav.
