Going off the grid.

Latly ive been trippin over some shit. see ive got myself into a predicament, im 18 and ive had this big plan of joining the marines(whoops must have forget i smoked dank?) anyway i graduated early and worked my ass off just to graduate like a semester early just so i could get out of my parents house. i had two jobs and saved a good sum of money and now i sorta am having second thoughts about joining i was thinking about going off the grid to live with me and my gf of 3 years. of coarse in oregon to grow our fair share of the green but i guess this goes out to anyone that wants to tell me how fuckin rediculous this is or isnt?

its really not that ridiculous.

Lots of people are starting to build self-sustaining homes off the grid.

true.

not sure you could pull that off in oregon. If I was in your position, I would probably head to Alaska.

Re: Going off the grid.

That has always been a dream of mine, and someday I am confident I will pull it off.

As far as legality, well I mean it is legal to camp in the middle of nowhere,as far as time limits I never heard of one.

So I guess if you wanted to build a very well stocked and semi permanent camp house, and stay there a few years and grow all the weed you want,I'm sure noone will try to stop you,at least in some areas.

I'm currently looking at Alaska, which I can say is the most remote and lawless place I can think of that is still US soil.

Either that or somewhere in Oregon,Washington or anything near the canadian border.

The best place would be the great Yukon forests in Canada, population is next to zero.
And is one of the most beautiful places I would choose to live, except I don't want to have to deal with all the immigration paperwork I would have to do.

Orrrrr
You could forget the marines and join the rangers.. let them train you in survival skills (all the ones you are talking about now) and go native 4 years from now.

Just a thought

Re: Going off the grid.

Your exact desire is chronicled in the movie called "Into The Wild" it's pretty good you should check it out. The kid doesn't smoke pot but he does leave everything behind to go live off the grid in alaska. Check it out though
