Pink lady slippers are my favorite flowers! The house that I grew up in had them growing in the back yard, and that was one of the few places I've seen them. I recently discovered a forest around here where they grow, so I go back every couple of years to photograph them.

Yeah behind my old house in in NH they use to grow in the 30+ range. The good/bad thing about them is they reproduce so they will always stay rare, but never go extinct so thats good.

Re: I grow other plants too.

I saw some lady slippers for sale at the greenhouse today. I'm really tempted to get one for my yard, but at $70 a plant, I'm scared I would kill it (they are supposed to be pretty finicky).

I did get some leeks, onions, and some heirloom tomato plants. We spent the weekend building some raised beds, so we can have a veggie garden this summer.

Re: I grow other plants too.

Yeah Lady Slippers are spose to be one of the most difficult flowers in the orchid cultivar to grow, and keep alive due to its specific needs.

Re: I grow other plants too.

I have grown other Orchids but never been able to keep a lady slipper going. I have a green thumb so it was frustrating knowing that in some places they grow wild.... The lady slipper is the state wildflower of New Hampshire.

Re: I grow other plants too.

We finally got our raised beds built and planted. We just have 2- 4x4' beds, but plan on adding 2-4 more in the fall.

So this isn't really anything special but w/e. So I planted this rose bush in an area that doesn't get much light, and man this thing just took off. Its trying to get some more sun lol. Im going to get some support for it and hopefully it will get even bigger. Its already taller then my house lol.

And one of my sunflowers. Nothing to special but w/e.

Re: I grow other plants too.

Thanks for sharing and getting this thread started, OSG.

I work at a nursery (when I'm not in school), so shrubs and trees are my thing.

As for as Rhodos go, you should check out some more unusual ones!

Vulcan - RED blooms.
Hong Kong, Towhead, Calsap, Lemon Dream - YELLOW blooms (the Lemon Dreams have a faint lemon scent to them)

or any of the white varieties (Cunningham White, etc.)

Everyone's gardens look great!

Have you ever been to Rhododendron State Park in New Hampshire? It's beautiful when it's in bloom

I've alwas wanted to, but I don't think New Jersey is the ideal environment for them.
