well there are different types of reels you can get and things like that. but for me i have a AMS reel which ran about 60 dollars. but that is one of the nicer reels you can get and some are as cheap as 25 dollars. and you can shoot them both on land or on a boat, night or day. i have a 16 foot jon boat and i have 6 500Watt halogen lights being run of a 5500W generator. Drive around at night and see them in the shallows and "thwack" its extremely fun. but you can shoot them in teh day just as easily. all you need is a pair of polarized sunglasses. which you can get for 8.00 at walmart and you just walk threw the shallows in rivers or on the edges of lakes n such. look for em and stick em get a group of like 3 guys out doing it and its a really good time!

also you can only shoot "ruff fish" or none game fish or panfish. ruff fish are things such as carp, gar, suckers, and things or that nature. there is no limit to how many fish you can shoot either. this is bc their thought to be a nuisance to the enviroment. Some lakes even pay you to kill them. Such as a quarter per carp or something of that nature. not much but it is what it is. http://www.amsbowfishing.com/ now for the insane stuff. peoria illinois is the most known place for this.

and as for what a beginner i think both are great options, spear fishing most likely being the easiest if you can get in areas where theyre spawning. but if your experienced with a bow give it a try. its a blast. and throw some spear fishing in to just break the routine up! give it a try!

Well I love spearfishing and where I live you can do it pretty much almost all year round, but before I consider getting a bow for bowfishing I have to get some things to make my hunting bow operational again. Bowfishing would be really good down here though because if you go out on a good day the water is crystal clear and you can see those fish before they see you.

I would very much love to try my hand at Bowfishing, it looks like a great time. If anything, simply to give me an excuse to draw and shoot at something other than styrofoam targets. I went fishing a few days ago and saw several mid-sized Carp perusing about the shallows without a care in the world, even when I showed up and tried playing them with some bait. The only thought going through my head at the time was, 'Damn, I wish I had my bow.' ![]() It should be noted that I could very easily take some shots at Trout in the area I go fishing, since they are always all over the place within shooting distance, but I don't feel like losing the right to fish in Colorado for the rest of my natural life.

It has been quite some time since anyone really revived this thread, so I figured I would chime in with a few much needed updates! Some time in September, I finally burned, pulverised, and swept away any remains of my own procrastination that were, at the time, overshadowing any of my worldly plans and drove to Bass Pro Shop in Denver with a sole mission: Get a bow. It wasn't that sporadic of a decision, really. I had done all of my homework beforehand, and had pretty much decided on a Bow before leaving the house, not to mention also calling ahead to make sure they had the one I needed in stock. Long story short, I picked up a Bear Archery Montana Longbow, Right-Handed, 50 Pounds at 28 Inches, slight Reflex-Deflex in the limbs... shoots like an absolute dream. Consistent every single shot, even with me being an overall amateur at instinctive shooting. The arrow rest is a bit flat, so I have to hold the bow itself at a clockwise angle to ensure that the arrow doesn't fall off during the draw, but it's really a small price to pay and adds to the accuracy and overall feel of my shots. I took one of my own arrows out of the game after missing the target while learning how to shoot again after all these years, and my Roomie took out another one on his first or second shot as well, so I have decided to dedicate three or four of the ten I have left to target shooting and to keep the other ones strictly for hunting with appropriate points attached, which I have yet to buy. From experience, does anyone have any recommendations as far as Broadheads go? I have no preference at all, (fixed blade or not, doesn't matter) so long as they can be found in 100 Grain, as those are the target points I've been training with.
