it sounds like fun, and maybe you have had one or two before. maybe your an avid lucid dreamer like i am (multiple times a month) but probably, you haven't had the experience yet but are interested in having one. well look no further friend, ol' pawlywog's got your back
first things first
get a composition notebook and keep it by your bed with a pen or pencil. as soon as and i mean AS SOON AS you wake up, crack her open and start writing everything you remember. it doesn't have to be a story (although it can be if you remember it well) go more for details. colors you vividly remember, something that struck you as odd or out of place, key elements of the dream be it people animals things you remember seeing or interacting with. get as much as you can as fast as you can. upon waking up 40 to 50% of the dream is lost and after 5 minutes of not thinking about it 90% or more is lost so do it quickly.
keep doing this, never ever stop. if you miss a day or two thats okay but never just abandon it if you are serious about lucid dreaming. i have a few old notebooks chock full of my dreams, i always look up key elements (http://www.dreammood...reamdictionary/) and write things i think are important and meaningful in the margins and what not.
eventually you will start noticing dream signs. mirrors, water, "pain", and my skin are huge dream signs for me. they look different, strange, obviously not "normal" and my mind alerts itself that i'm dreaming. also noticing things that really would never happen in the waking world are also good signs.
the first few times you notice these signs you may not always consciously come to the conclusion you are dreaming and sometimes if you do, you wake up instantly. don't let this discourage you, the more and more you start to recognize these things, the less and less likely it will be to wake up.
don't expect immediate results either. although its possible, its unlikely that you'll immediately start lucid dreaming. or you may have one and then won't have another for quite some time. keep up the dream journal and the determination and it will get better and easier.
some tips-
i set 2 alarms, one about an hour before i actually need to get up, normally speaking you should fall right back into REM sleep (dream sleep)
stay CALM! if/when you realize you a dreaming its really easy to in your mind be like "I'M FUCKING DREAMING OMG LUCID DREAAAAAAAAAM" and then bam your eyes open. its frustrating as HELL and don't think you won't experience it, i've been avidly lucid dreaming for a few months now and it still happens to me sometimes.
patience is a virtue! if this is something you're honestly interested in, you have your whole life to get it right. don't give up after a week or a month of nothing, you went years and years without having one, don't expect to nail it in a night.
having a regular sleep schedule is ideal but not always necessary and drugs be it bud alcohol or what have you do have effects on your sleeping/dreaming so keep that in mind
questions or comments can be posted or PM'ed to me, i'd be happy to help.
good vibes and sweet dreams everyone!
