You can do it both ways, really. The recipe I'm planning on using calls for half-cooking the bacon and sausage in beef broth (or water, I'm using broth for added flavor) at the beginning, removing them, adding the vegetables sausage to cook and putting the bacon back in the pot towards the halfway point.

It sounds strange to do with bacon, but apparently it works quite well. You can cook it beforehand and then add it in without the process I mentioned at the beginning, but something about steaming crispy, fried bacon sounds very, very weird.

Re: What's for dinner?

The Camcorder doesn't do anything justice in low light. I edited it a touch, but I can only salvage so much of a shitty JPEG. Here's the first layer of the Coddle itself, which I topped with another layer and now have steaming on the stove. What you can't see are the potatoes, which were layered on the bottom.

45 more minutes, baby. Here I am trying to contain my emotions with the smells that are coming into my nose right now...

Edit: It's too dark, really, for this camera to take an effective snapshot at this point in time... but let me tell you, this was worth the wait. If I have any leftovers at all tomorrow, I'll get a shot with my camera when I get it back. Until then, I'm going to lock myself in a closet with this pot of love and harmony and pray to god that it lasts a lifetime. If you guys never see me again, it means my wish has come true.

Re: What's for dinner?

Looks delicious Durchii!

We had lemon, rosemary, and garlic chicken breasts with asparagus spears in brown butter, collard greens, and some awesome Israeli bread that my mom sent from Israel to me.

Yum

Re: What's for dinner?

I miss this thread.

Last night I made homemade pizza w/ mushrooms, onions caramelized in bacon grease (from last night) fresh mozzarella and a drizzle of balsamic sauce.

Re: What's for dinner?

Sounds like a great pizza, Penelope! Good to see you back around this thread!

Random leftover snapshot of the Coddle (which is now breakfast) from a couple of minutes ago:

Edit: Note my destruction of the sausage at the bottom of the frame. I probably could have waited before I took a picture, but oh well. It was worth it.

Re: What's for dinner?

These guys over Garlic Angel Hair Pasta with a side of steamed Broccoli.

I baked them with garlic, lemon, dill weed, and a touch of butter. They're still in the oven, awaiting my approval.

Sounds good man! I haven't had fish in a while, I think I'm going to cook some mahi-mahi tommorow.

Tonight I had barbecued chicken and bacon in a tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, barbecue sauce, mustard ans cheese.

Re: What's for dinner?

I think I'm either going to have some chili loaded with vegetables or some homemade tomato soup with chicken and pepperjack cheese paninis. Probably the latter.

Re: What's for dinner?

You are the Curry Queen, Penelope!

Made a pizza with Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion, Tomato, Mushrooms, Artichoke Hearts, Green Peppers, Yellow Peppers, Red Peppers, Mozzarella, Ricotta, Parmesan, and a touch of grated Parmigiano Reggiano.

'The Real McCoy', I call it.

Re: What's for dinner?

The orange rice came out really good. It was the first time I've made it

1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
1 cup jasmine rice (rinsed)
1/4 tsp ground ginger

Put it in the rice cooker, and cook it on the white rice setting.
