i don't know who started aim as the primary messaging program, but i hate it. the piece of shit had some clip advertisement playing at the top of the program. the clip file was so big that it lagged down my aim when it was downloading. i don't like the warn system; i don't like how you can only type so much so fast or else you get punished. who the hell is aim to decide how fast you can talk to whomever. i've never used aol on my computer other than aim for its messaging. does anyone else dislike aim or do you not care. i usually don't but these clip ads piss me off. it's bad enough that they try to put 17 "aim today" news windows that i don't care about in my face. then they force you to listen and watch. fuck aim. but, i'll continue to use it because it's my communication means.

sounds like you need to upgrade your computer...fast, lol

but yet those ad things get really annoying especially when they just start playing music out of nowhere

well, it became dominant because so many people had aohell... it stayed dominant because so many people had gotten aim =) you can download deadaim, and it kills the ads and everything for you. I use an old version of AIM and DeadAim - i don't like the things that bundle with aim these days, or the changes in the agreement. you can go to oldversion.com to get old versions of both of these (deadaim was free up until version 4 or so, so if you get an old one, it's free AND works with an AIM that doesnt install quite so much crap) gl!

I dont hate it with a passion like you do, but everything you mentioned gets on my nerves. I just try not to let it bother me.

Try using 'Gaim' instead of AIM. I've not used AIM in years. Gaim lets you sign onto AIM / MSN / Y!M / IRC and others all from the same program. It's ugly and unstable, but beats AIM in my opinion.

AIM got popular because most people here used to use AOL and eventually moved on to AIM, wanting to keep their SN + talk to friends who have AOL. AIM is not popular in other countries. Most people outside the US use MSN by default, I noticed.

2) The AIM client from AOL sucks, but there are a lot of alternatives. I use a Mac so I use AdiumX, but I could also use iChat. There are probably a dozen replacements for AIM for Windows, not to mention the add-on programs that remove the annoying stuff from AOL's AIM client.
