i was in boston on year for the 4th, and had a blast - they've got great food, the fireworks were awesome, i got to see don mclean... i was young and not really into the club scene, so i cant speak for it. really, the food won me over, i was there for a chowderfest, and the dimsum in their chinatown rivaled the dimsum i've gotten in SF.
<edit: i just realized how useless this post was, i think i went stream of consiousness from chicago to fourth of july trips to boston - my apologies>

Man I think wherever you eat it is going to be delicious. Chicago is famous for their steaks, so a steakhouse would be a good selection.
There is a place called Ed Debevic's - it's an old diner style, but the difference is that all the wait staff is rude as fuck and every 30 minutes they put on little shows (dancing on the bar and stuff like that). Very entertaining place to eat. Portillo's is a local fast food place that rocks my socks. - Also if you don't have a Potbelly's it is a great sandwich shop to eat at. Downtown there is a Rock n Roll McDonalds. It is super nice. Even if you don't eat there it is a cool place to at least go in. If you do not have a Maggiano's, I would go to one. They are a national chain but it is really some of the best American style Italian food I have had. I love gnocci and there's is the best! mmmm Comedy Sports & Second City are inexpensive comedy clubs worth visiting. They are down at North and Wells (I think...). Two subway stops down from that is Belmont. It is a very popular bohemian area. I love it there. There is a store in that area called The Alley that is worth visiting as well. (very cool body piercing jewlery and clothes) If you want to take a scenic ride, take the bus up North Shore Drive. I love going up there. It is beautiful both ways - to and away from the city. You can get off at Sheridan Drive and walk down to the beach. It is really beautiful. What else are you interested in. There is so much to do and see but I'd like to narrow it down a bit more for your tastes.
