Referring to Weed as "Medicine" Annoys Me

I dont feel the need to rant right now but i dissagree with the OP also.

I use it to help me eat and help me sleep.
So It is a medicine for me.

What a silly thing to get annoyed

I'm referring to people who go out of their way to call it "medicine."

There is not need to be making a post on Grass City and say "so I went to take some of my medicine" or anything like that.

How is using an alternative word going out of the way? Does it actually take more effort to call it medicine?

I think someone else mentioned it, but many times referring to pharmaceuticals as medicine is more of a stretch of the definition since many medicines can be more harmful than good.

OP, is somebody a little envious of those of us that can legally buy medicinal marijuana?

i dunno what the big deal is. we're at a point in the cannaculture movement in which we need to be deliberately, repeatedly blatant about the cold hard facts. it's a medicine. why call it by something that has a negative connotation attached to it, ie: dope, weed, pot.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not a patient and there are many times when I call it medicine. Then again, there are times when I am honestly using it as a medicine.

The people who call it medicine are usually the ones who use it more for the actual medicinal properties and not so much the high. Like with glaucoma patients, its actually their medicine because without using it they have pressure behind their eyes.

Well its hard not to get offended when you are saying that you get annoyed when people call it medicine, even if its for MEDICINAL purposes.

I mean damn dude, people all over are trying to fight to get it legalized, and you are in a way, completely disregarding the fact that it does serve a medicinal purpose. Kind of like how the federal government has it classified right now as a Schedule I controlled substance, in the same category as PCP and heroin, saying that it has a high potential for abuse, and no medical value.

Are you kidding me? Hundreds of thousands of people have been using cannabis for thousands of years to help with a variety of ailments, and that's not a medical purpose?


The way you came across OP, was pretty much dismissing people who do use it for medicine, many times when "conventional" medicine as we know it does not work or creates horrible side effects. That's the same sort of stance that the Fed gov't has, and with that kind of a mentality, it will make the fight to legalize it that much harder.

It's a sacred herb, I think that comparing it to a "medicine" is like calling absinthe "mild", it's much more than a medicine. However for most people it's just a name to call it, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

you can smoke for many reasons. for meds, for just getting high, spiritual reasons.

i smoke for meds, so what? you saying that that even didnt actualy occur? just because some of the reasons we choose to smoke overlap doesnt mean its not a med.

Just an aside here (scratches balding pate) but I wonder if "kids" who use cannabis for recreational purposes find the sight of shriveled up old folks who use it for their crippling back pain, and the cancer and AIDs patients who use it for nausea and so forth to be depressing or creepy. Its like "I'm cool, I smoke weed, I'm young and rebelious and vital" and suddenly there is before you some hobbling skeleton barely hanging on to the crumbling walls of the grave who uses the same herb out of sheer desperation merely to stay alive. Beating their age spotted arthritis knotted hands on the door of the dispensary and begging for their "medicine". Maybe it just messes with ones perspective. To share something of such importance with these shambing reminders of mortality....it might mean you have to grow old and die someday too...

No, I was not dismissing the fact some people use it for medicine.


All I'm saying is I think it sounds stupid when I read posts with people saying things like:

"I was about to smoke some of my medicine"

"The cop asked me what it was and I told him 'That's my medicine.'"

etc.etc.

I'm paraphrasing but I've read very similar things on this board.
