Pit Bulls don't make good guard dogs. They are more often than not very friendly towards strangers. This is how they were bred over centuries - to be completely people friendly, while being aggressive towards dogs.

The chances of your pit keepin someone outta your house aren't very good. If you want a guard dog, get a rotty.

Dogs are not "mean" or "evil" its the owners who fuck them up when being raised. Ive met plenty of nice pits and hope to get one some day. right now i have a coon hound/black lab/yellow lab...in a town home ahaha

Haha I was plaanin on gettin one of them too. But shit, if someone breaks in an sees a fuckin big BUILT Pit Bull. that could seriously discourage them from continuing.

i love pits and i hate to rain on this thread but my girl cant seem to change this pit, he's been treated like a king his whole life but seems doomed to wanna kill cats and snap at other male dogs every chance he gets, is this normal?

well i have a pure breed boxer and it pisses me off when im walking my dog and it barks at someone (she does it cuz shes happy and excited) and they flip shit.. they always say pitbulls should be outlawed they are mean and kill people.. WTF.. frist i always say my dogs not a pit its a boxer 2nd its not the dog thats mean its the people who raise them.. if u find a pit or any other dog that wants to kill people the owner prolly does too. my favorite dogs are the ones that people dislike because they here lies.. Boxer, pit, rot (people dont really dislike boxers they just think there pits)

ohh and thanks for the info i thought pits were raised to fight Bulls not dogs. the boxer was also a fighting dog but now they are well know for being a family animal (my dog loves people and other animals)

my friend has a pit and its the bigest bitch in the world it thinks its a lap dog.

lol...any home security expert will tell u that the large breed dogs almost never work..its them lil ones that wont shut up and will warn the entire block of an intruder, my minpin/chi is the best "guard" dog ever! lol weve got a pit/lab mix, hes worthless in that area unless we're already with him and tell him bad people *cue words* if he dont hear them he'll lounge on the couch and not make a sound...but i love him anyways...and our friend has some pit pups and i want one sooooo bad!! i love pits, always have...and hopefully i can get another one when the baby gets older to grow with him/her

I have a beautiful buckskin pit named flea, he is an American Pitbull Terrier, he is the nicest dog i have ever owned, them getting bad rap is because they want to play with other dogs and animals, but they like to play rough, and it gets them in trouble.
have you ever seen animal cops, if they catch a pitbull, they use those choke poles, and they NEVER try and attack the officer, but the minute they get to the pound, they put them to sleep. when i saw this i was like, WTF!
