A visit to the doc for ADHD...with an ulterior motive.

Okay, I honestly think that I might have ADHD. I have a hard time focusing when doing schoolwork, watching movies or even reading a book I enjoy. I've been taken to the doctor when I was younger but they came to the conclusion that I did not have ADHD. However, my grades have never been that great and although I sincerely try, I can't seem to just sit down and focus long enough to make any significant progress. I told my parents what I thought and they set me up a doctors appointment this afternoon but they think I am just going to try to get a drug to get high off of. This isn't entirely the case but I can't lie to Grasscity, I wouldn't mind getting a script for Adderall, lol. However, I am truly concerned about my inability to focus while doing schoolwork or concentrating in class. If my parents talk to the doctor and tell him how they feel before I can talk to him, he will probably see exactly the way they do and not even bother to take me seriously. So here is my dilemma: If the doctor dosen't take what I have to say seriously, what are some things I could claim that indeed would get him to take me seriously...?


I know this can be kinda broad but for the most part, I know that Adderall helps me and when I have taken it before, I felt no "upper" high, which would not be normal. For people who really do have ADHD, the medicine will not act as an upper and this is somewhat of a concern for me also...


Any comments/advice welcome.

I would try to avoid that from happening. In fact, something doesn quite sound right about that...it should be a one on one situation with you & the Doc only, shouldnt it?

A Doctor should not be influenced simply by a Parents observation of thier child, chances are they do not know the facts about your deal or ADHD. I love my Parents, but neither one have a degree in medicine.

Alright, I think you should reconsider what you're doing to be honest.

During my sophomore year in college I started to research Attention Deficit Disorder. I had a couple of friends who took medication for ADD/ADHD annnnd it got me to thinking. I made a ton of appointments with everyone from a therapist to a psychologist. I took a bunch of tests for ADD/ADHD in a psychologist's office. My psych diagnosed me, I took a trip to my normal doctor and voila! Stimulants! Daytrana, anyone?

I don't really want to go into detail, but now I've completely stopped taking that stuff because I lost 15lbs and eventually began having suicidal thoughts while coming down.

I got straight A's during that time :/

Doctors generally don't like giving anyone of age, Adderall.

im not going to lie man, but lying to a doctor in order to get a perscription drug which other people desperatly need is fucked up :P

I know lots of people that are prescribed Adderall but maybe it's just around here. Anyways, I wasan't saying that I am going to lie but simply that I think I really do have a problem but either way, I wouldn't mind a prescription amphetamine.

Uh, which other people desperately need? What are you talking about? There's PLENTY of adderall to go around, trust me. And to the OP, you'll most likely get prescribed Vyvanse, especially if your parents talk to the doctor first, since Vyvanse has a low dependency rate and can't be abused.

Well, I ended up just being able to talk to the doctor myself but he is referring me to a psychologist. They also sent me to a lab to get some bloodwork today. So far, so good.

vyvance is alot better, it last longer and the come down aint as bad
