Glass Collectors: Why Collect??

Dam, cant believe i missed this thread. I love glass, every aspect of it. chilling with glassblowers and seshing with them. Nothing like watching hot glass being blown while high as shit. I dont have the meanest collection but i def get what i can.

I collect heady pieces because i trip a lot of acid, and for everyone that has hit an out of this world heady piece while tripping knows the difference, and can never go back. there is something that can't reallt describe, because it doesn't really have a place in the spoken word realm, that goes with using a piece of art to smoke herb. It's like hving a mind meld with the artist, who is invariably a beautiful person.

I collect because I love a piece of art that is completely functional.

When people who don't smoke are impressed, it really does have an influence on how people view the industry and pot smokers in general.

And I collect because I love the best smoking experience possible (though in my experience, many awesome looking art glass pipes don't smoke that well). I don't even smoke out of maybe 5-6 of my heady dry pieces. Too harsh. Just beautiful to look at.

Whenever I see a pipe that is better than all the ones I already own I have to buy it. Especially if the price is right. Sooner or later you have a lot of pipes.

i collect simply because i enjoy smoking out of pieces. i also enjoy variety. blunts and joints are so ordinary. there's only so much to look at. but with bongs, bubblers, bowls, etc. etc. -- it's like a whole new fuckin world. so much to discover. so many things that can make your collection, unique. i like that. i can't even explain the joy of buying glass and calling it your own.

I just started serious collecting before i would buy glass here and there but now when i see one i want or its really unique i'll find a way to buy it, but i rather have a bunch of peices by a few really good artist than like one really expensive name brand one, that my opinion altough i do have some brand pieces. Why else would you collect glass? You just simply love it. I don't think there are to many avid glass collectors that just get a heady piece to get it. When you see a heady piece that someone has purchased you have to think of the connection they made with that piece. You could not have just spent 500 or so dollars on a heady bubbler just to get one, but because that piece is just a MUST HAVE. You know what I'm talking about.

...enuf said, this is exactly how I feel about my small but rapidly growing collection...when I find something that is a better fersion of anything I already have, ore better yet something new all together, I just have to buy it!

i collect because there is no better feeling than riding home from your head shop and just waiting to smoke that new piece. i've been smokin about a year and a half or so and i've accumulated 3 bongs 3 hookahs 3 bowls and a steam roller. all of which i find to be beautiful amazing pieces and every one is a work of art.

I love to buy nice glass. I collect ornate pipes/spoons, and top notch bongs.

The hard part of collecting glass, is that we (I) use it. It is more than art or a collectable starwars action figure that never comes out of its original package. It gets dirty... really dirty, then scrubbed, and dirty in an unending cycle. That leads to breakage, and bye-bye collector value.

When I ordered my most recent bong, it was after a long series of expensive breaks. First, the PHX, then the Blue Amsterdam Design, then the Red Amsterdam Design, then my heart almost broke when I broke a leg off of my Hawaiian sea turtle that you flip over on its back to to expose the bowl. I picked that up on Oahu only 2 years ago. (I think it could be fixed) In all, it was an easy $1000 in glass gone.

My most recent acquisition is a RooR intended to stand up to the abuse I obviously deliver. At 7mm thick, it is almost brutish it it's strength. With the base price as high as it is, I decided to go all out and customize it. I wish it a long life. Perhaps one day, if it survives, it will be collectible. (see my post in fine glass).

i've got a closet full of glass
but then again i've been smoking for a few years and have yet to break a pipe(not including sliders for my bongs)
all my pipes hit differently so i have a different piece for every mood
