The Japs should have thought about the possible nuke consequences before they bombed Pearl.

I think that speaks for itself.

i remember watching a documentary on hbo about the damage done by the nuclear bombs. they had a clip from like a year after dropping the bombs and it was the pilots who dropped the bombs meeting survivors. the pilots looked like they would have rather died in hiroshima than have to go through what they have to go through. all in all very sad shit, hopefully we the past never repeats itself.

Pearl Harbor was an attack on a U.S. Naval Base, which killed a total of 2,345 American military and 57 civilians. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed as many as 220,000 Japanese civilians immediately, and thousands more from injuries and illness. Not a very appropriate response in my opinion... it's a sad thing that the United States has to take the burden of carrying out the only nuclear attacks in the history of warfare.

If memory serves me correctly, the Japanese were unaware of Nuclear power, let alone nuclear bombs. So to say they should have thought about something that was completely unfathomable, is a bit an ignoramus.

Not like it matters now, but FDR could've prevented Pearl Harbor from happening. The reason he allowed the incident to happen was because he would be able to have propaganda backing to support our joining of WWII. This shit goes so deep.

Very true... FDR was dying for a reason to get us involved in WWII. Then after being briefed about the Manhattan Project, Truman used Pearl Harbor as a reason to use the atomic bomb and show off our power.

I'm holding back my anger but you should be careful with that word Jap. I'm Japanese American, my grandfather and his brother battled the Nazis in Europe for the US while their families were interned in relocation camps, and some of my distant relatives were killed in Hiroshima. Please refrain from using that slur please cause my family faced massive amounts of racism and prejudice just because they were of the same ethnic origin as the "enemy".

Edit: For those who want a little more insight into the Pearl Harbor incident read Day of Deceit.

What if America didnt drop it and the war went on longer and more people ultimately died?

im not condoning it, infact im against nukes completely as a weapon, but Japan did surrender pretty promptly after. It brought a quick and clumsy solution to a problem; America all over..

edit: also what are your views on America having so many nukes, and having nuked a country themselves, and then telling another country they cant have nukes? bit hypocritical?
