Jazz and Weed - A Long history.

Well I'm a fan of jazz, I like Miles Davis, John Coltrane and all that. Those motherfuckers were revolutionary. I also like weed. I like the way jazz sounds when you're high, nothing else like it. For chrissakes I'm listening to some old school jazz from the 20's about blazin'! (back then they called it jive, reefer, and tea as opposed to weed, herb, etc.)

It's no wonder, since many, if not pretty much all jazz musicians were huge stoners. Louis Armstrong even wrote an entire song ("Muggles" which was a slang term for weed back then) dedicated to it!

This I think provides a great argument for the legalization of weed. Jazz is, some say, America's only art-form and is respected world wide. Weed was a favorite of jazz musicians, I'm sure that during performances they were all high as shit.

Jazz is also unfortunately why weed was made illegal, since Harry J. Anslinger, lying racist fuck that he was, associated those devil negroes with jazz, and henceforth weed. He said that their devil music was fueled by weed...what an asshole.

But I just think it's a shame the way U.S. government has demonized two of my loves...weed and jazz...those motherufckers really don't know what's good.

I dunno...I'm just blazed and all the shit clicked! I don't blame you if you didn't wanna read...

Sounds real good man. I've listened to John Coltrane and Miles Davis many times when stoned

Do you listen to blues when you're stoned? It gives off a similar vibe to smoke to.

I like that suggestion! I should pop in the John Lee Hooker next time I burn a bowl.

Listening to World beat music is also fucking amazing when you're blazed. Fela Kuti is a god among us.

weed and jazz make the world go round... literally. you can find both influences on every aspect of music and pop culture, you just have to dig a little deeper under the sometimes bleak looking surface. jazz is the only true american art form, sicne weve \pretty much stolen nearly everything we claim to be ours, and i am a huge fan and player.

Its awsome. Robert Johnson is real nice too. Even the more modern stuff is great, like Cream's Wheel's of Fire's liver 'Train Time' or George Thorogood, or SRV?

Anyway back to the Jazz ..

I love me some Charles Mingus. His bassplaying and composing skills just blow me away.

Or Ray Charles? I copied a 5 cd boxset of his stuff off a buddy, its pretty tasty.

Hells yes, man!

Jazz is fucking revolutionary. I actually did a paper in high school about Jazz. Covered everything pretty much, including Louis Armstrong's "Muggles". Got an A for that one too!

Well. She didn't have much range, even less in her later years, but the tone.. the feeling.. not many could beat her there.

tribe are the shit, and they do use tons of jazz samples and original stuff, which is what makes their message so much more solid than the unmusical, unintelligent rap of the 21st century.
