Education Important!

Kinda sad, not too long ago was at a party and my friends lil brother who is still in high school had some friends there. I was telling them how its good to get good grades in school and such. Thats how I go to college and all and that if you don't do well in school you ain't gonna do that well in life unless you get lucky. So they started laughing and told me that high school is a joke. I kinda flipped out, told em I got a bunch of friends who skipped high school sold drugs and did alot of em and now they're working 7-12$ hour jobs and are broke as fuck all the time and that they regret it completely. They quited down a lil and I then proceeded to tell them school ain't a fucking joke and that if your gonna go, you my as well do something instead of stare at the wall.

Anyway it just pisses me off at how stupid some kids are. They were like 11th and 10th graders and still haven't figured out why they're in school. Even more sad their parents never informed them how important an education is. There are more important things of course but it is still important. This just shocks me. Around 45 people in my lifetime have said straight up do good in school and never be afraid to learn. What do yall think of this?

(Now don't get me wrong, I know there are some kids that live very poor and went to a bad school and live in bad neighborhoods. I'm not bashing them at all, i'm bashing the people who live in nice household and go to a decent school and think education is all a fucking joke)

This, I think, is a cultural trait mostly associated with North America in that we have a definitive lack of a work ethic here as far as education goes. Think about it, do you think you're going anywhere in this world (Excluding the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom where you can at least survive without so much as a GED) without an education?

I could just be rambling into a wall here, so don't mind me.

Of course your going somewhere when your learning whatever you want to pursue in life. You wanna be a chemist you gotta learn chemistry, you wanna be a sports writer you go learn communications. Think where you could be without one. I've seen people pump gas and smoke cigarettes at the same time. Without being aware of the consequences they could happen. In China how good you do in school is how good of a job your gonna get. You do bad in school they hand you a mop and say mop the floors for the rest of your fucking life and your salary is shit. Sry but some of you might hate to admit, but the shit is important.

Eh, I did HORRIBLE in high school. Failed like 4 classes throughout the 4 years, my overall GPA was a 2.2, I didn't study/do homework or anything, and i'm at a decent university now getting decent grades. I'm not a moron though; I did good on the SAT, if I would've got anything lower than an 1800 I probably would've been fucked college wise.

There is not much drive because of the lack of desire for competition. People get a job as a manager at Hardees with benefits, health insurance, bonus and paid vacations. It's enough to keep em surviving, people accept it. Many people don't strive for success and the best they can achieve. Why? Many reasons.. laziness, living in a bubble world, having narrow views, being uninterested in the hows and whys of life.

If you want to live in a socialist country, like most European countries. In economics class these are known as 2nd World Economies because growth is slow. But then again it all doesn't matter because of peak oil...whatever

Socialist?

You got it all wrong buddy. Capitalism is DICTATED by competition, however americans would be the perfect people for a communist country. Those who want to push the limits of possible and known are those meant to be in a capitalist society and thus economy.

lol, ok, this REALLY annoys me, you have a few stupid friends who sold drugs (do what u gotta do) and were probably a junkie themselves, how can someone not be happy if they didnt stay in/do good in school, why must they be lucky? do you NEED to be well educated to be happy? i think not.

im perfectly happy NOT talking about how shitty my job is and how i cant catch a break from work, or i cant hang out with friends because i have too much to do, i get money & i survive, i can eat/drink/clothe/wash myself AND enjoy life, once i get this job ill have all the money i need,

it pisses me off though, when i mention being a drop out i always feel the need to defend myself

You're not a bad person, lol.
I believe that the drive for success leads to discoveries and bettering the world. My university has 25,000 students. That does SO much to society, and there's tens of thousands of those. Put brains to use, instead of not using it to its full capacity. It also keeps 25,000 students off the streets, and the evils that come with it.

HOWEVER high school is a fucking joke.i left with a 1.4 GPA. do i regret fucking off? yeah i do. im in college now iwth a 3.6 GPA and i enjoy it much better. high school did nothing for me personally.

but then again i only have a high school diploma and im starting a job making 60-70k a year while going to college full time.

Higher education, im not even talking about high school.
In my opinion what is taught in high schools are essentials, people should know those things. Important thinking skills and facts that enable you to do more educated decisions in your everyday lives, whether it be your taxes or making responsible decisions during elections

High school is indeed important, but I'm not big on the system of higher education.

It's sad that you have to put yourself in debt thousands of dollars to get a degree. Even more sad that you can learn everything on your own and still not get a good job just because you didn't spend all that money for the degree...

But that's a rather depressing subject, I'm moving on to happier threads!

Sooo..

Do you want to tell me how

Math
Gym
Language arts
Science
History

Is going to help me get my certifications for computers?

Fuck no, you can't.

Yeah, I know, highschool, it's important. But what if kids are uninterested in what they learn? Really what average kid wants to read Romeo & Juliet, and other dumb shit like that. This world would be better if we had choices.
