Interview Graphic Illustrator

So I'm up for a job interview tomorrow. I am starting to get nervous even though I already have a job, this one will be for ALOT more money than I am making now. It is a Junior Designer/Illustrator/Artist entry level job at this state agency I work for.

I went to a private technical institution for 3 years with my background in Film/Animation. I don't have any portfolio that is in any way impressive. I worked this whole weekend coming up with some pretty cheesetastic logo ideas and letterhead, business card, website type stuff. I know it isn't really my major, but I really really want it just so I can finally move out and on with my life.

Anyone else ever been in one of those situations? One that you know if it goes the way you want your life will instantly gain more value/enlightenment.

Hopefully after I get out of work I can pick up and smoke a phat bowl and forget about the whole interview. My buddy said he would most likely have some tomorrow. Hopefully staying sober for the weekend will have me sharp for that interview. WISH ME LUCK!

hate to say it, but the portfolio is the most important part. I got a job paying an average of $75 an hour based on my portfolio alone. I've kepted my contacts with that company so I can continue to get the odd job from them but, I decided to go back to school that way I could teach instead of having to put up with the bullshit of clients.

good luck. I'd say after having a solid portfolio, you ought to give them a demonstration of your proficiencies in the software they use.

I have to agree with Palmer, a shit-kicking portfolio is sort of your bread and butter, I'm very surprised your school let you graduate without having a proper one in order. I would get together with some fellow artist buddies, or maybe some previous proffesors you may have been friendly with and get something together that will hopefully blow the eyes out of any potential employer who leafs through it. Shit it might even be worth it to pay someone to put something together for you, if you suddenly get a huge bump in salary and rank, it would wind up being way worth the effort and expense, no? I think thats whats gonna sell your skills, it will also take soooo much of the pressure off your shoulders when you interview. You wont have as much to prove, your work will do most of that task for you.
