Legal age to work in the US is actually a lot lower than 15. In some cases children as young as 6 are allowed to work (in entertainment)... You're allowed to be a paper-boy at age 11, and you can baby-sit at 12. But to actually get your working papers for normal-people jobs (like at a McD's or BK for example) you need to be 14... This also varies by state - these are just the ages for PA

Yeah, but what I don't get is why there are legal reasons. I mean, without the recreational users on this site, they go outta business in a week. Of course there is a medical usage section, but that's not really what this site is about or even tries to look like they're about. Besides, medical cannabis can be prescribed to all ages, so if there was some sort of "We only let legal users on the site." type reason as to why it's here, that doesn't check out.

I guess like the porn sites, the City just doesn't want to be known for exposing minors to such things and they don't want to deal with the shit-storm they'd have to deal with from crazy anti-drug groups and parents... I don't blame them. But based on the letter of the law, I don't see how it could truly mater.

I have also seen studies where thc has been known to induce psychosis on adults aswell... while true, the adolescnet mind is more subjective to such things, I know from first hand experience that it's not that big of a deal and did not affect me and I started smoking at 14. I think it's just got more to do with teenagers are not as far past traumatic experiences in their lives, so thc would be more likely bring up bad unbearable memories. But that's up to the user to know how it could affect them and decide if it's right for them in their life... I'm postive a 15 year old could figure it out.

I just went with 15 because it was a general number for being legal to work. I know in Florida, you can work at 14 but for <10 hours per week, or something like that. Maybe 14 would be a better age, as it would include almost all High Schoolers. I am postive that a 14-15 year old is intelligent enough to fully understand and comprehend the affects of using any drug... they just have to take the time to learn and make an informed decision. I knew it was as harmless as a drug could get long before I took my first hit.

My 2 cents, I don't really care how old you are, unfortunately, sites like GC must remain in compliance with the law, which in most countries is 18. So no amount of polls will ever change the age requirement here, it will take a radical overhaul of the government(s) for a 17 and below to ever be allowed to legally join/participate in sites of this nature.

i love the age limit in this site. i used to frequent "hater-tech"(honda-tech) just to read, never really posted anything, kinda like i do here, but as i was reading for info on how to fix my car or just general news in the honda world i would have to sive through a bunch of flaming. fuck that i come to forums to gain knowledge and communicate with others with a similar mindset, not to read twenty diff ways to insult someone with clever diction and emoticons. sorry for the rant, but since coming to this site i learned that there aren't just dicks on forums just waiting to flame someone to feel better about themselves. keep it up GC.

I think you're missing the point. This site sells smoking paraphinalia, and to smoke you have to be 18 in a majority of places. So if you're not old enough to do it, why in the world would you want to join a community you can't be a part of?

I realize the site is based in the netherlands and the forums mainly revolve around cannabis, but it's still all about smoking. If you can't purchase anything from this site you shouldn't be here. I fully agree with the age limit.

I'm also of the opinion that if you think people under 18 should be allowed to smoke (cannabis or whatever) then you are probably under 18. I smoked a lot when I was younger, but looking back now I realize it probably wasn't the best thing to do. When your body AND mind are still developing and you take anything that will affect it, you are robbing yourself of your full potential. If you can't see that, I think you're on the wrong side of our arbitrary age law. Of course you think you should be able to post here, you're as old as you've ever been.

I dont really have a prefernce on the age limit. Now if a 10 or so year old is here..then yea gtf out. But I guess it just comes down to maturity..act mature and youll get respect. Good point. Not that all people under this age arent mature enough, but many aren't. It would be bad to have a rookie make a bad decision and get arrested or worse because of this site.

I think age limits are bullshit. You can't determine how responsible or how mature someone is by how old they are. When I was 15 I was more responsible/mature than some people that were twice my age. I'm 18 now btw.

And if the site has age limits for legal reasons, then I'm pretty sure a majority of the people here are from the U.S. and in the States weed isn't any more or less illegal for minors. This site is based in Amsterdam though, and I'm not familar with the laws over there regarding minors and weed.

If you're a mature enough underage person not to seem as though you're childish, it'd be simple to bypass the age limit checkpoint during registration and continue along your way. Should they blend in with the majority of mature people here, I don't see how we could be any the wiser. Floydian once pointed out on these forums that, unfornunately, it's much easier for a mature underage user to be banned here than an immature user who is above eighteen.
