What equals addiction?

Does looking forward to the next time you will be doing a ceratin drug equal addiction?
Does not being unhappy unless you are under the influence of a certain drug equal addiction?
Does not being able to function with a drug equal addiction?
Does always doing it equal addiction?

I just want to know what you guys classify as a person that is addicted. When is someone no longer taking a drug for recreation and b/c of addiction?

Addiction is when you have lost control of your life and you are letting a drug/substance control it.

I think an addiction is when your body NEEDs it. Like smoking.

I can stop weed for a day, week. (A week is all I've ever stopped for) and I didn't feel the NEED for it, but I did WANT it.

In the clinical sense, addiction is either an inablity or limited ability to function without the substance, or unwanted changes to ones life and the lives of those around them on account of the substance use.

addiction is the Physical need for some thing. that you cannot behave normally unless you have that in your system. like meth heads. when they get so bad they start to convulse if it isnt in their bodies. and crack babies, they will actually die if it isnt in their system.

a psychological addiction on the other hand is more common in the sense that you want it so bad, thats all you can think about, but that is mainly an obsession.

in order to break a habit you must replace it with a new one.

addiction is continuing to use a substance despite negative consequences... say your always broke because you buy to many drugs but yet you still spend all your money on them, or say your on probation and even though you may get in trouble you continue to risk it by using a drug anyway...

its not that you "need" it, you dont need anything really other than your basic things like food, water, shelter etc.., its just that you make a drug more important to you than anything else... you have to get high or else you feel like something is missing in your life... even though the drug is changing you and causing alot of problems and life would be better without it.

theres alot more to addiction than whether you need a drug or not, its a disease that has many characteristics that all addicts have

Anything can be addicting. Its when a human brain recieves the most exciting thing and your brain tells you that you need this or that whatever you were inspired by and love. Without the thing that inspired you can have you lead towards depression or if its a serious addicting thing (drug) then it can cause suicidal thoughts if the addiction or inspiration the thing you brain tells you that you need, then it can make you very mad or sad. I"m addicted to alot of things. It could be something in the brain like a desire to the things you love to do or consume and the desire is so big that its all you want and without your left with sadness or anger. That basically what it is. Who really knows the only things we have to show what it really is, is addicting drugs like nicotine,coke,crack,herion,meth,pills, and even alcohol. Whats amazing now is people are addicted to fast food or even eating alot, and some are addicted to tv,video games, and even animals. A person just has alot of fascination over something and hates other human activities that its what a person wants to have their own personal enjoyment or fun. Its a really intresting topic but just desire for ones enjoyment or fun. The lack of enjoyment or fun leaves the person lazy because he may think its worthless to work for because he may not get the access to do what he desires or consume what he desires. Humans love to have fun. I mean serious what is fun besides enjoyment or fascination

yea. i agree. if you do it during times when it really hinders things. such as no cash, when you have real shit to take care of, you know. if you cant stop doing it when you need to, just cause you want to be high or whatever so much. and for sure if you are unhappy when you arnet doing it your addicted, whether you admit it or not.

I think addiction (in a sense) to marijuana happens when you discover you are "able" when you are high. Once you realize you can do whatever you can sober just as good (like drive?), you start to justify getting high more... like before work, or before family events, or your girlfriend. I know, you cannot technically become "addicted" to it, but like astrorightous said, its kinda like obsessed.
