Accutane and Alcohol

I started taking Accutane today and I was just wondering if it's okay to drink while taking the drug. The drug CAN cause some serious side effects that can be fatal, and you have to go in once a month to get blood work done because Accutane can damage your liver. I'm assuming toking and taking accutane isn't harmful, but alcohol and accutane could be. If any former/current accutane users know the answer to this question please respond asap

Smarten up? I read every single fucking page in the manuel that they gave me, and I signed my name a total of what, 10 times? The point is I know people who have drank while on Accutane, and their bloodwork still came out A+. My acne isn't that incredibly bad, it's just i'm going off to college relatively soon and no other medicine has worked. Seriously, don't tell me to fucking smarten up when I most likely know a lot more about the medicine then you do, i'm not a moron, if I think the medicine is negatively affecting me i'm going to stop taking, right away. I do go to parties though, thus why I was wondering if drinking occasionally(1-2 times a week) is acceptable while on the medication.

Yeah acne is fucking painful, let along embarassing. So yeah i guess i am that desperate. Dont speak on what you dont know. You kinda pissed me off here. Good Job, A-hole.

I was on it for a few years with no side effects. I drank, smoked, poped pills, triped a few times. Its all good. You should be good drinking but just to make sure, drink a little bit then see how its goin. Then if its good, get wrecked

Sorry I snapped on you a little earlier enevitable, I was in a really really fucking bad mood today(not sure if was the accutane or not). About an hour and a half ago when I was playing football with some friends my stomach started KILLING me, it was quite possibly the worst stomach pain that i've ever had(not gonna get into details). I came home, turned on the bath tub, and sat on the toilet in pain for a good 30 minutes, and then to top it off I dropped my phone and toilet tissue into the bath tub accidentally(so I had to run around the house half naked while my parents and sister were home to get more toilet paper). Anyways, i'm definately not going to take Accutane anymore, when I saw the list of side effects I just merely brushed them off because I didn't think they'd effect me, but clearly they did. Time to go load a bowl

its ok bro, that shit was probably the lighter side of, too bad geo toker snapped on me, as highly uneducate as he was about the matter

here it is straight from the FDA's web site
What are the possible side effects of Accutane?

Accutane has possible serious side effects
· Accutane can cause birth defects, premature births, and death in babies whose mothers took Accutane while they were pregnant. See "What is the most important information I should know about Accutane?" and "What are the important warnings for females taking Accutane?"
· Serious mental health problems. See "What is the most important information I should know about Accutane?"
· Serious brain problems. Accutane can increase the pressure in your brain. This can lead to permanent loss of sight, or in rare cases, death. Stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber right away if you get any of these signs of increased brain pressure: bad headache, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. Also, some patients taking Accutane have had seizures (convulsions) or stroke.
· Abdomen (stomach area) problems. Certain symptoms may mean that your internal organs are being damaged. These organs include the liver, pancreas, bowel (intestines), and esophagus (connection between mouth and stomach). If your organs are damaged, they may not get better even after you stop taking Accutane. Stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber if you get severe stomach, chest or bowel pain, trouble swallowing or painful swallowing, new or worsening heartburn, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, yellowing of your skin or eyes, or dark urine.
· Bone and muscle problems. Accutane may affect bones, muscles, and ligaments and cause pain in your joints or muscles. Tell your prescriber if you plan vigorous physical activity during treatment with Accutane. Tell your prescriber if you develop pain, particularly back pain or joint pain. There are reports that some patients have had stunted growth after taking Accutane for acne as directed. There are also some reports of broken bones or reduced healing of broken bones after taking Accutane for acne as directed. No one knows if taking Accutane for acne will affect your bones. If you have a broken bone, tell your provider that you are taking Accutane. Muscle weakness with or without pain can be a sign of serious muscle damage. If this happens, stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber right away.
· Hearing problems. Some people taking Accutane have developed hearing problems. It is possible that hearing loss can be permanent. Stop using Accutane and call your prescriber if your hearing gets worse or if you have ringing in your ears.
· Vision problems. While taking Accutane you may develop a sudden inability to see in the dark, so driving at night can be dangerous. This condition usually clears up after you stop taking Accutane, but it may be permanent. Other serious eye effects can occur. Stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber right away if you have any problems with your vision or dryness of the eyes that is painful or constant.
· Lipid (fats and cholesterol in blood) problems. Many people taking Accutane develop high levels of cholesterol and other fats in their blood. This can be a serious problem. Return to your prescriber for blood tests to check your lipids and to get any needed treatment. These problems generally go away when Accutane treatment is finished.
· Allergic reactions. In some people, Accutane can cause serious allergic reactions. Stop taking Accutane and get emergency care right away if you develop hives, a swollen face or mouth, or have trouble breathing. Stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber if you develop a fever, rash, or red patches or bruises on your legs.
· Signs of other possibly serious problems. Accutane may cause other problems. Tell your prescriber if you have trouble breathing (shortness of breath), are fainting, are very thirsty or urinate a lot, feel weak, have leg swelling, convulsions, slurred speech, problems moving, or any other serious or unusual problems. Frequent urination and thirst can be signs of blood sugar problems.
Serious permanent problems do not happen often. However, because the symptoms listed above may be signs of serious problems, if you get these symptoms, stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber. If not treated, they could lead to serious health problems. Even if these problems are treated, they may not clear up after you stop taking Accutane.
Accutane has less serious possible side effects

The common less serious side effects of Accutane are dry skin, chapped lips, dry eyes, and dry nose that may lead to nosebleeds. People who wear contact lenses may have trouble wearing them while taking Accutane and after therapy. Sometimes, people’s acne may get worse for a while. They should continue taking Accutane unless told to stop by their prescriber.

i also remember the doctor said i would have to taking monthly blood draws to make sure that it wasnt killing my liver, because it is a common occurance, not to mention your symptoms were right there in the list bro.

Let me guess? SIDE EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA: YOU WON'T FIT INTO SOCIETY!

this is only the stem of it, if you have any tendencys of depression they will absolutely not let you take it, people have commited suicide and killed others on this drug, but theres always people who outweigh all these risks just to improve how they look in the mirror :X

ok buddy, judging by your stance on this, im guessing you didnt have much ance, right? Well then dont talk about what you dont fucking know! Your not a doctor, so dont tell kids this is going to fuck them up more then acne can. Sure you should take some precautions when taking these meds but they worked for me for years with no problems AT ALL. It could the best medican you'll ever get for some, and it could be disasterous to others. Just like Marijuana, right?!

geez

Look, we all know at this point that marijuana has medical properties. Okay. It's been established. But it's not a panacea...it doesn't get rid of a cold, wipe your nose, cook your dinner and bring you your pipe and slippers after a long day at work.

People have to use pharmaceuticals from time to time, and if there are adverse reactions (that occur in varying percentages of patients), then that's a choice you have to make. Just because marijuana isn't accepted as a medicine doesn't mean that a prescription for pills is the lowest thing you can do. I mean, Christ, the medicines that have been developed by laboratories have extended the average lifespan (I know acne isn't a life-threatening thing) by 20 years in the past century.

And I've said it before in a medical marijuana thread, but if you look objectively at the side effects of marijuana as listed on Erowid of all places, the effects look like those of just about any prescription available.
  • nausea, especially in combination with alcohol, some pharmaceuticals, or other psychoactives
  • coughing, asthma, upper respiratory problems
  • difficulty with short term memory during effects and during periods of frequent use (Ranganathan M, D'Souza DC, Psychopharmacology, 2006)
  • racing heart, agitation, feeling tense
  • mild to severe anxiety
  • panic attacks in sensitive users or with very high doses (oral use increases risk of getting too much)
  • headaches
  • dizziness, confusion
  • lightheadedness or fainting (in cases of lowered blood pressure)
  • paranoid & anxious thoughts more frequent
  • possible psychological dependence on cannabis
  • clumsiness, loss of coordination at high doses
  • can precipitate or exacerbate latent or existing mental disorders
Get off the guy's case. He knows what he's doing, and if he feels the benefits outweigh the potential risks, the more power to him.

I took Accutane for my severe acne when I was in high school. All those side effects are EXTREMELY RARE, and don't assume you know more than a doctor because of a sheet of paper you have. Girls have to sign waivers and get on birth control because of the extremely high risk of birth defects, no other reason. Every month you have to go through this questionaire to make sure you're still in good mental health and such. Bloodwork every month at the same time. They take care of you... christ. Don't have to be so jumpy on the guy. I never drank on it, but smoked plenty of weed that's for sure. I've never been a real heavy drinker though. I may have taken mushrooms too, if I did that was fine too. I think I did.
