Anti-Depressants should be taken off the Market

I used to take prozac for 4-5 months a while back and it helped me out quite a bit. Lately over the last 2 months i've had tons of suicidal thoughts. Every other day it gets worse and today was very bad I just felt like there was no point in life and if I were to kill myself I would end up better. The suicidal thoughts come about once a week but still are serious. Other than that i'm always depressed unless i'm high or drunk. I think the pills made my depression even worse. I think cannabis would of been a better choice and I think that anti-depressants should be taken off the market for perscription pills and allow medical cannabis to relive the depression. Everytime I smoke, even if I take like 1 hit from a blunt I just feel better/undepressed. Weed has to do something against depression for sure. What do you all think should they be taken off the market or not? They just ruin you more than you already are. Other pills out there also do the same. There have been other reports of the anti-depressants causing suicidal thoughts but what do you think they should do with them, take them off the market or not

Well we all could use more cannabis but that's besides the point.

Anti-depressents do a lot for people, and many rely on them. And they're prescribed for a lot of things including anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and chronic pain. I do think they're not for everyone though, and like your case make things worse. But they shouldn't just be taken off the market. And in case you didn't know marijuana is considered a depressent.

You know, everybody I know who has ever been on anti-depressants say the same thing.

Glad I decided against them.

i just dont want to have to relly on poping a pil every day to feel well. its one thing if its for aids or something more physical, but i just always feel like i want to be in control of my head.

that being said weed is sometimes good and sometimes bad

that also being said, just cause i dont feel like explaining any one thought to well, its been found that antidepressants, on younger people, as in before the mid 20's or so whenever the brain has fully developed, sometimes have an adverse affect and can worsen the case. if thats you defenitaly talk to a doctor.

The problem is its hurt me so bad that I'm paranoid to even hold a knife to cut something generally like a steak knife I get lapses or just crazy fast thoughts that go through my head for like 8 seconds like a huge adrenaline rush and in those 8 seconds if I had a gun or whatever I would probably kill myself and during those 8-10 seconds I think that if I kill myself my life will be better but definently not, it would be over. That is how bad the pills have messed me up. These suicidal thoughts happen once a week but still they make me scared as shit when they happen and after they happen I get more increasingly depressed. I don't know what to do I'm trying to do whatever weed, beer, cigs, to make me happy so I guess thats good just wish me luck on getting through this mental shit.

Its not about popping a pill every day to feel good. Anti depresants dont work like that. You take them consistantly over an extended period of time, and slowly it regulates chemicals in your brain.

Livingalife, do you still take the pills. If not, when did you stop, and how did you stop (all at once or gradually)? Also, it seems like your kinda self medicating (weed beer cigs...), which might have something to do with the pills not working (i cant say for sure though, i'm no doctor)

I dont think that they should be taken off the market. Its true, that they can sometimes have an advirse effect, especially in younger people, but i know people in my own family who say that these same pills saved their lives.

For me, i'm not exactly sure if they worked. They deffinitely didn't have a negative effect on me, but it took me so long to get better, and there was a period of like a month where i didnt take the pills at all (pretty much just forgot about them lol), and I felt the same way i did, no change at all. But they work for some people, and if thats true, its not fair to deprive these people of the medicin they need just because some people, who are all warned before they are prescribed it, that it may cause the opposite effect in some people. Your doctor should really be monitering you very carefully when you're on anti-depresants.

Anyway, it sounds like you're going through a real rough spot man. I know you wont believe me, but i know how you feel, i was there for a while. Just remember that its not always gonna be like this, and no matter how impossible it seems right now, it will get better.

Good luck bro

Peace.

Did you ever think that it could possibly be the weed/achlohol, im not sure if you felt this when you started to smoke /drink or if you felt this when you started to take the pills, but if it were the pills then you should stop taking them immedieately and tell the doctor you have had suicidal thoughts. Hope everything works out for ya.

Often, suicide is a side-effect of anti-depressants. It gives the user the motivation they need to carry out the suicide. Talk to the doctor or psych... i don't know if i should say ologist or iatrist, i don't know the different. But talk to the doctor who prescribed them to you, and talk to them about it. The suicidal thoughts can escalate...

I wish you the best

I keep hearing that, that they take time to take affect. Im on Effexor XR and havent been on them long enough to know if it will help but there is allready a great deal of side affects and the worse part is mixing cannabis with this drug is a bad combo, I tested the limits of that statement and never again will I try it again so im going to give it a try for a month and see if there is any improvment and I won't be smoking

Although I think I should disconntinue now, I think there will be much worse side affects coming and there will be w/d's which will probably put me worse then I started.
