I would call your company then and have them test your line. I was having problems with the dsl light on my modem coming on and staying on until they sent someone out to run some new wire. I've had problems with this dsl since the day I got, I just recently got it to work right and I've had it since dsl was available.

fuck them bro they'll drag it out blaming your gear

NID or not you can wire off your POTS box using two runs of cat5 or cat5 e shielded

one is directly to your modem the other gets a chopped up filter wired directly in line from the box

if you still get sync errors high CRC error rates and crazy s/n or line att stats you can try setting a portable am radio to 1400

you'll run around your home near the phones wiring sniffing for RFI if found you'll have to disconnect whatever motor or whatever is chopping up your ac enough to desync you

could be ham or cb radio so see about that in your area ..after all that you can safely assume its the CO or RT wiring thats the problem IE not yours thus they gotta fix it at no cost to you

Sounds like you have a heat issue, but the safe mode thing makes me think its a hard drive or a problem with your windows install. I would run a repair and if that doesn't work reload. Hope you have a way to do backups before starting any of this.

Try to Restore your system to an earlier time when this problem wasn't happening. Did you install any new programs/drivers before this problem started cropping up? Have you checked for Viruses/Trojans/Spyware? Does it ever lock up or freeze while it is in safe mode? (Boot to safe mode with networking support to visit the links.)

this is a timely thread.

I've got an olevia 26" LCD tv, that doubles as my monitor for my desktop. It works great in that capacity, but when i hook my laptop up to it, it goes batty. it takes most of the bottom right part of my desktop and moves it to the top left. the rest of it comes on in the other corners, like it's wrapping around, and there are big black bars in between sections.

i've tried every resolution my lappy has, tried VGA AND s-video connections, and it just doesn't work right. any ideas?

sounds to me like your graphics card doesn't support the resolution. methinks your LCD TV's native resolution is Wide XGA.

1366X768 resolution, have you tried that?

since XP tends to hide drivers or settings that may cause major problems your answer probably would rest it's ugly head on finding a copy of powerstrip

http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

bit torrent will no doubt have a fresh copy if you find the shareware works (or pay if you're greatful lol)

firewall?

my free firewall expired..because they give you a "free" firewall with your sbc yahoo dsl..

anyways, ive been told by a few people that firewalls arent needed that much if you have an antivirus and antispy program, which i do.but then ive also been told firewalls are something very useful to have, for obvious reasons.

so should i get another firewall? i dont want to pay money for one, lol.if i should get one,any suggestions?

Zonealarm is meh... If works, but since it is programed like shit there are lots of exploits for it. I recommend Blackice this firewall is BEAST!!!! the GUI sucks, but once u get used to it you can't go back to any other.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but...what's wrong with XP's built-in firewall?

Windows firewall hardly works, most programs get by it by accident. Also it takes a simple Registry entry to add your program to the allow list which is a snap.

Windows firewall is also VERY VERY VERY basic. You don't get any control over ports, traffic, or get to see any addresses that have tried to intrude. All you can do is allow or disallow a program and nothing else.
