smoking and usage

This is a long read about my situation but is well worth it. But if you dont have the time, jump to the fifth paragraph and read on from there. I just need some counseling from peers on GC.

I met my friend Andrew only 10 months ago. Within those 10 months he became the best friend I ever had and we smoked regularly. For the first time in my life, I had a friend who I could share everything with. Andrew wasn't lazy; he was trustworthy and could make me laugh for hours. I could ask him to do anything for me and he wouldn't question it.

The first 8 months that we were friends were absolutely the best time of my life. I was happy, confident, and most importantly I had my friend Andrew. Two months ago we were both caught by our parents around the same time for smoking marijuana. This is when things changed.

We were both penalized by our parents to no end. I was not allowed to hang out with Andrew anymore and the same went for him. We weren't even allowed to speak on the phone with each other. Imagine not being able to see your best friend. My room was searched every day and I had no privacy at all. He was sent to a psychiatrist and had to piss in a cup once a week. He was put on anti-depressants but wouldn't take them because he truly wasn't depressed. Our parents went all out.

Yesterday, my best friend Andrew was put on suicide watch and is now confined in our local hospital. I haven't talked to anyone except his girlfriend about it and she knows very little. She told me his mom was trying to make him take his "anit-depressants" and he wouldn't do it. Instead he threatened suicide because of her madness.

His suicide threat (or attempt?) is not because he is "depressed". We have talked about it and he truly isn't depressed. I almost know that it was solely because of how his parents decided to punish him and treat him.

Marijuana does cause problems, just not the problems you hear about in the media. Its the problems that parents and authority cause to prevent a harmless, peaceful plant from being used.

That's fucking rediculous. My parents freaked when they found out I smoked weed at 16, too, but if I was in that situation, I'd run away, seriously, and not come back. Is there more to that story, or is that the just of it. Parents just found weed in your room, and you guys didn't like talk about it or anything they just went and did all that for a little ganja...

And you can see anybody you want to, I don't see how anybody can force you not to see your friends, that's impossible...

exactly, the only negative effect (apart from a little short term memory loss and a bit of short term lung damage) ive had from weed is either from the law, or from ignorant people (including my mother) knocking me for it.

I do not live with my parents anymore - partly for these reasons. Hearing about this pisses me off. I don't understand how some parents can be so cruel to their offspring. His parents are quite fucked in the head.

IMHO, if you can, move far away (take him and his GF too).

If thats not possible... I think there's other things you can do.

It sounds like you are coping with the situation. My best advice is to continue to do so. You've definately got your head on straight. Remember that in time it will be over.

Your friend should NOT have threatened suicide. He has got to play it cool, he has got to play by his parents rules. Escalating the matter is not the way to go. Unfortunately there's nothing he can do until he moves out -- he's got to live under the rules of his parents (and so do you).

You and him could 'pretend' to respect your parents. Starting getting along with them. Show them exactly what they want! And for godsake, be stealthy when youre smoking

It makes me fucking angry to hear this. Parents should not treat their kids like this. I know a lot of parents whou would think their kid is insane, depressed, or dumb for smoking or trying other drugs. As Rasta said it is not the drug it is society that causes problems.

Im sorry to hear all this, but blaming cannabis is NOT the answer! Your harsh parents for such a pitty "crime" is where it comes down to. They are obviously close minded to the idea and beleive its truely harming you (or whatever BS they have to put on the table). Had your parents been cool with it, it would all been fine and dandy im sure. Having to go to thearapy and UA'd all the time is no way to live for simply smoking a few buds here and there. Lets just pull out the death penalty for all cannabis smokers while we are at it!

Yeah marijuana is not the problem the "law" is the problem.

Im going to go a little offtopic on this but I was at another forum and their was a guy that started a thread about how mariuana is ruining is life. He stated because he cannot concentrate and is doing bad in school and is too lazy to do anything. Well you know this guy has been lazy his whole life and probably has had ADD ever since he was a kid and never realized it. So now he's blaming pot on his own problems and his laziness. I was going to reply to the thread but sadly I had been banned earlier.

People just love to blame stuff on their own trouibles. Because their is no way it could their own problem because we all know everyone is born perfect.

i agree with you guys..... some of the time i let the negatives of the society justify not smoking.... negatives of society and ignorant people like my parents.... that's why i haven't smoked for different periods of times ( not now though!!!)

I can emagine not speaking to my friends, i live 2000 miles away from them at the moment. im trying to get enough capital to move back, ive done just fine, if you keep your head above the water and you wont drown. my best friend, had a car crash, im so glad he wasnt killed.

Comunication has been severed on a global scale with all altering substances. Try to have a logical, moral conversation about them with someone that doesnt use recreational drugs(except booz). It's almost an instant "taboo."
