Smile 24 Hour Fast

Ok, so by no means am I trying to start a religious conversation, however I just wanted to say this:

One of my good friends is jewish, and as some of you may or may not know, some jewish people fast this week, or for the last 24 hours.
Even though I was baptised methodist, I decided to fast with him, as a personal challenge to myself, and to cleanse.
Let me just say, I give you guys props for doing this every year. It was REALLY hard, but boy do I feel good. I didnt smoke, drink, eat or brush my teeth for the last 24 hours. Once the 24 hours was up (25 minuits ago) I had a plate of dinner and a glass of martinellis apple juice. Some of you may know martinellis applejuice is the best around, however this was the best glass of anything ive ever had. Tasted like heaven in a glass.
Anyway, I just wanted to recognise those who did it this year, and if you completed it congrats, and I hope you feel as good as I do about myself.

Actually it was really hard for me, im a huge lush. After sunset I felt like a new person, I had a whole table of things ready that I let go for what felt like an eternity. However, it felt really good to obtain such a goal. No pain, no gain.

Fasting makes you really appreciate all the things that you have that others don't.

I don't know many dedicated muslims, but i do know some dedicated christians who go several days like that without food. I'm personally astonished because it's incredibly difficult, even if your drinking juice and getting those sugars and carbs.

Just out of curiosity, in Islam, when fasting are you allowed any aids? Other cultures have sustitutes like water, juice, rice, etc.

I wish I had the strong religious convictions like that. Kudos.

I did the 30hr famine with my church a few years ago to raise money. Me and a few friends started early and stretched it to 48 hrs. The second night we went on trips with the church group all night because they said sleeping made it easy.

The year after we did 50 hrs. These were both with juice only. It wasn't easy, but not incredibly difficult.
