Historical drug use and its link to religion and human evolution

(If you don't want to read this. At least skip down to see the links I provided.)

We know religions like Shamanism and Wiccan ethics
were centered around drugs. We also know of religions that use Cannabis, Peyote (Mescaline), and Ayahuasca in their rituals.

Why do people deny links between today's 3 modern widespread religions and drug use?

For example in the link below titled "Did Jesus eat shrooms at the last supper?"

Heinrich says the mushroom resembles pita bread and when soaked with water it feels exactly like human skin. He figures that's the bread that Jesus was referring to at the last supper when he said "eat this bread, this is my body."

But that's not the only way Jesus might have doled out psychedelics. Heinrich says people who eat lots of shrooms have a reddish-orange urine that's even more hallucinogenic -- and figures the almighty turned water into wine by whizzing into a five-gallon jug of H20.

We know for a fact that people back in the day used herbs as medicine. We know that a lot of these herbs had (some very potent) psychoactive effects. Datura, Cannabis, Belladonna, Mandrake, Brugmansia, Magic Mushrooms, Papaver Somniferum (Opium Poppy), etc.

We can't prove 100% that people back than used these drugs recreationally, but what's wrong with the theory that a prophet/God was walking, tripped and got hurt, and the doctor rubbed one of his special oils on the wound (made from the above herbs), and then later on the prophet was walking and started hallucinating and hearing voices.

Today, if somebody takes LSD or any other drug and says that he's communcating with God, hears God, or he himself IS God, we would put him in the looney bin. Back in the day, however, we would have worshipped or exiled the person. Or maybe we would of had a Witchhunt, thinking the person is possessed.

I am interested in the history of humanity and what role drugs played in it. Since we relied so heavily on plants early in our civilization, and since a lot of the plants we relied on had potent psychoactive affects, I believe that we would not be where we are right now if it wasn't for our ancestors' drug use.

Drugs give you insights, and they open up your mind/soul to the spiritual world. Today we can see how everyday life is quickly degrading into nothing more than money, material possession, reality TV, shitty heartless music and no care for our fellow man.

Why are we in Iraq killing innocent people for no reason? Because most people are too busy working their asses off to afford a shiny new car to give a shit about politics and what our government is doing.

I don't mean everyone should smoke Pot and use other drugs, but damn, that would be a peaceful world full of love.

Look at this video of soldiers testing out LSD. One soldier - a man trained to kill - climbed a tree to feed the birds.

To be honest, i started to read it when you posted it, but after reading one of your opening lines, I had to stop. Wicca is not "centered" around drugs. It's a natural religion, with multiple god's and goddesses, celebrating nature, in all it's elements. It's not a group of people gathering around a hookah chanting spells.

I've heard about Jesus' oils perhaps containing cannabis, but what evidence is there to show that he ate mushrooms?

My Bible says that he took bread and broke it. As far as I can see, there's no discription of the bread or anything. He takes it, breaks it, says it's his body, and they eat it. It takes like two verses. There's a lot more info about the wine than the bread.

Just putting that out there, I guess.

They deny links because it presents moral obligations that people don't want to see, it's like an oxymoron for most people, drug/religion. It is definitly not totally deniable that drugs relate to higher experiences with spirituality, so to say certain drugs brought the creation of religions and such is not out of whack, but at this point it's pretty much impossible to prove. I wouldn't doubt it at all, since most psychedelic/psychoactive drugs spurs thoughts that put many things unseen into perspective, such as God. But all in all, drugs just like religion, creates as much bad as it does good. It's a bummer.
