Anyone from Seattle?

Quote:
She's just a small town girl, living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
He's just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
I got to thinkin the other day, replace Detroit with Phoenix, and that's me. I'm done, I'm sick of the people, I love Arizona, but I've lived here all my life. Too many burned bridges, too many charred remains, I don't want to be here... so after listening to that song, and specifically that last two lines of that stanza over and over the other day, and upon entering the brink of lunacy, I decided I want to move.

I was so tempted right then and there to leave, but I can't. I'm too much of a structured individual, I'd be lost if I were to do something like that. So after my sanity began to come back, I got to thinking, what about after Jr. College. I'll be done next semester, and then I could maybe move to a new city, start a new life, and become a new person, while still remaining responsible and continuing my education at some university.

So then I got to thinking, which cities would I like to live in? LA, San Fran, or Seattle came to mind. LA and San Fran seem to be kind of spendy for me... so I looked at Seattle on craigslist, and it looked decent. So, I've never been there, so I have a few questions. I've been to Portland, which I fell in love with and would move to in a heart beat, but once again, a charred remain. So, i figured Seattle is probably Portland, but much better... so why not.

Now here's my dilema. I'm a conservative person, and we all know the Pacific Northwest is a pretty liberal area. Now, if people put politics aside, liberals are the people I can hang out with, and socialize with better. I love liberal cities... but, there is that problem that sometimes people don't drop politics as easily as I can. So, because of this, how difficult will it be to socialize? Surfing craigslist for roommates and pricing, I noticed a trend in a few of the ads, "No Republicans" is that a general display of what the whole city is about? Because like I said, I much prefer my friends to be liberal (and my current ones are) it's just that politically I don't agree with them... and that can cause some tension. And I don't want to leave one place where i have a few friends for another place where I'll have no friends. hah

Weather. I'm from Arizona, anything under 70 is freezing. So, is there snow in Seattle? What's the winters like? I remember Portland being in the 50's during March, and I could deal with that... but deep in January is it blisteringly cold? As for the rain, I have no issue with that. One of my major attractions to the city

Basically, please give me some feedback. I'd like to know what others think of Seattle. I don't even know if I'm going to move yet, it's all preliminary... I just know that either after Jr. College, or University... I'm leavin' Phoenix... and the sooner, might be the better.

Surprisingly enough, I'm from Seattle. I think you will fall in love with this city. Everyone is really humble and open-minded. The reason your seeing "No republicans" is because there is an odd generalization of conservatives around that area (OR people want a roommate that shares similar political beliefs so they can bond). They are looked upon as sheltered, red-neck, closed-minded people (repubs.). Not everyone in Seattle is like that, but it's almost typical for a Seattle-liberal to have that mindset of conservatives.. Others, though, will respect your beliefs.

I highly suggest you look into Seattle more. You won't regret it. I'm moving back ASAP.

That's kind of odd that you're from there motion, and yet currently we live in the same area. hah.

So then you'd be able to answer my question best since you have experience with my current climate... how different are the winters there to here? I mean, we can get to 30's 40's as well.. it's just we warm up by 3pm But there do they get below 32 often? and I assume it heats up to about 50ish in the day time?

Winters are my biggest limiting factor while moving... I stay my pale ass out the cold!

Lol - I'll put it as simple as this. Last summer, when we chilled outside at night, I was shivering pretty good. My body is pretty used to the Arizona heat. It snows every other winter (roughly) so expect to wear a heavy jacket for 3 seasons of the year. You can probably wear a lighter one once you get used to it.

I hope you like rain, too.

from what ive experience you arent going to get crazy snowfalls in the seattle area but the further inland you go it increases + the higher elevation. along the coast you'll get rain/drizzle

Well fuck I might be able to deal with it... Maybe I'll take a trip during winter break up there and see how it is...

The rain, no issue for me. Id' love a 360 day a year rainy season. Shades of Black (gray) is my favorite colour, so huzzah!

Then maybe I could buy a Bobbert original, hand blown piece :-D

Have no clue where bellingham is though, hah... not familiar with the area. :-D I just know Vancouver Island (I think that's it???) and Seattle and Olympia (hah, maybe I'd bump into Opivy too) But... that'd be cool. And awesome to know somebody enjoys my presense.

BUt this is all prelimary... the two things holding me back. a) credits won't transfer b) no decent flight program.

However... if it doesn't work out for next summer, once I graduate University, I'd definately move up there and attempt to get into Alaskan Airlines :-D

Is it like an icy climate then in the city? Where I would need a winter and summer car? Driving on ice=not so good for someone who's only seen snow for 15 minutes total in his life...

CGCC is a University now?

<3 Jonsi.

No you won't need a winter car. Just pick some tires with good traction in the snow, and you're set.
