Hi there. Hoping to set this up as the official salvia FAQ, unless I missed it somewhere.
Introduction: My name is Joe. I am 18 and currently reside in New Jersey. I have been smoking Mary J for...almost 4 years. I have been doing salvia for nearly a year. I have tried nearly every product, besides tinctures and above 20x( I may have various reports saying my first time was 5x-10, when in fact it was 20. I was informed of this about... 20 minutes ago by my hookup). I will explain Salvia background. All is from my own words. I would check out sagewisdom and erowid for additional information.

Background: Salvia divinorum has been used for thousands of years by shamans. It is a pyschedelic, meaning it WILL NOT show up in drug tests. There are several methods of injestion, including quids and smoking. (short but a good background). Salvorin A is the main chemical ingredient in the trip. Vaporized or pure salvorin is not safe unless done by a professional. A strong dose fits on the head of a pin.

Quids: 6-30 leaves rolled. Fresh or rehydrated leaves. You would chew for a few seconds,and place under tongue.. Using mouthwash optimizes this because it gets rid of dead cells. It takes 30 minutes-1 hour for the juice to be absorbed to produce effects. They last about an hour-3 hours. Effective method for a more intense feeling over along period of time .

Smoking: Is one of the most effective ways. Musts are: Torch lighter (salvorin A burns at a high temperature, so a torch lighter will activate it). A water cooled pipe. (a spoon may be used, but is harder to hold in the smoke). I would suggest using extracts. They are certain amounts of leaves placed onto more. Its like: 5x= 50 grams of leaves infused onto 10 grams of leaves. This is 5 times stronger than regular leaves. I would start with 5x or 10 x. These will produce closed eyed/open eyed visuals. remember a sitter(someone sober who watches you) Should always be used for safety purposes.
Place an amount you can inhale in 1-3 breaths into the bowl. Hold the torch in, and inhale to draw the flame into the salvia. Hold you carb, and then release. Keep the torch lit the entire duration of smoking. Hold each breath in 10-25 seconds. After this, set smoking device down(if you can) and get into a comfortable position. Sweating and tension(especially in the hands) is a normal side affect.

This natural growing herb is used as a spiritual enhancer. Using it as a party drug like weed will not feel good. It is to enhance your understandings of the universe. you may see crazy images making no sense, start laughing none stop, or induce in a long, profound journey of understandings. No matter which one, The trips will most likely last 5-20 minutes. by 30-45 minutes, you will be back to normal, and feeling "different" Almost rejuvinated. Here are some experiences I have had:

Normal leaves: Light visuals, not worth it. Use these to make extracts.
5x: Nice beginnings. With 2 or 3 puffs, I had nice closed eyed visuals. A nice relaxer before work.
10 x: Closed and open eyed visuals. good for a night time treat. you will still know you have a reality and consciounse, just be slightly confused at where they are.
15x: A perfect inbetween. Stay here for awhile before you plunge to 20. You will have definite open eye visuals, be no longer aware who the sitter is, and may believe you are an object. 2 dimensional items can occur and you will most likely be unaware of who you are.
20x: no feeling of who you are bodily. It is like the 20x bus came by and picked up your soul for a nice trip.

25x+ Any feedback from users would be nice. Anyone with experiences who can share would be appreciated, and left with ++ rep. this was a quick type up. In another week or so, i will add another experience. with 10-30X. Hopefully i can get some nice +rep for this. I would appreciate this format(for ease, ofcourse).

Check you PM's. I would go by actual weight, instead of bowl sizes. My next order of 3 grams of 10x will last a couple months, easily.

I got ahold of some of the regular leaves before I knew they weren't worth buying.. but it's cool. I want to buy some extract.

Anyone know if the US gov. plans to make it illegal any time soon?

It's not that the regular leaves are not worth it, it depends on what you want from it. I know some that enjoy quids rather then smoking. I would give it a try first.

In either case, I would never use Salvia to get "fucked up".

Definitely, if that was my intention I'd pop a few pills or something. I just want to experience something different from reality for a short period of time so that I can confirm to myself that reality is subjective. I can't really fathom it without learning it first hand.

wow, 10x seems shitty. im gonna be making an order tonight for some salvia and a pipe, evan tho this will be my first expierence should i think about starting out with a high extract? i really want the out of body expierences and the loss of reality.

I've done Salvia about 10 times, but I'll do that report thing on the 3rd time I used it: it was the most profound and farthest down the Rabbit Hole that I've ever seen on any drug.

Experience:

After I took the hit, I forgot that I had the bong in my hand. I figured it morphed into my hand and I needed it for survival, so i would not let go of it...my friend had to take it from me. After this, I laid down on my bed, and entered a trance.

It is sort of hard to explain how I entered the Salvia world. The best I can describe it is like this: When I looked straight, I saw the "real" world. When I tilted my head to the right, I entered the Salvia world. I stayed there for the remainder of my trip.

I remember running through a South American jungle, and finally being captured by soldiers. They brought me to some sort of pyramid, where I saw who I now believe to be 'Ska Maria la Pastora': The Salvia Goddess. She was fucking pissed off at me, and ordered me to be sacrificed. I tried to run, and (according to my friend) I was running in place while lying on my bed. I don't remember much after this, because the effects start to dwindle.

lol i cant belive i just ordered 80 dollars worth of the stuff i got 4 grams 5x 2 grams 10x 1 gram 15x 1 gram 20x cant wait to try it out i plan on smokeing out of a bong idk witch one i should do first 5x or should i try somthing stronger for first time

yes they do...liquid salvia 20x tincture of 2 oz. cost $170-185 a bottle.

for those who are starting, I would order some 5x and 10x. You can PM me for the best places to order from. the smoke is not harsh, smoked through a bong or bubbler. IT is a nice cool taste, as should be expected. It tastes weird, and adding some mint to it can enhance the flavor wonderfully.Having a sitter is something you must have for your first few times. It is still suggested after that, even though you will be more experienced. The reality you know is completly crossed. The person above only had one hit, and wa gone. Be careful. Tinctures are expensive, and I have no experience with them.

well i just put in a order of orange flavoured salvia 20x. keep in mind this will be my first time expierencing this. and any other hullicinigenic (sp?) substance. i think this will be great to prepare me for my first time shroom trip in a bout a week or more

Be careful, and enjoy. As this is your first time, 20x may be ALOT. Pack just a pinch. enough for two breaths. I would say have a sitter no matter what.

EDIT: Now, my post is moved to the right forum. sorry to the mods, I did not know. If you have a scale, then http://www.salvia-divinorum.com/salvia-faq-doses.html will help you. While I suggest starting with 5x for safety reasons, I would suggest starting with 10x just for some nice "eye candy" visuals. Measuring 1/20th of a gram (.05) will be a moderate dose of 10x. This is why a scale is more accurate. You will be amazed. You can get 60 moderate doses of 10x(Each one being .05 grams) from a 3 gram order, or 30 heavy ones. Measure .1 grams on the scale, and then divide that portion inhalf. By next weekend I hope to get pics up ( i have no digi cam or cam. phone, So I will use a half ass webcam. I may make a video too.
