so a guy at work was bitching about how prices on cigs in texas are raising from $.41 a pack to $1.41 starting in September. I don't cigs that often so i don't care. but if you do are you bothered by this?

All I know is I'm damn glad I live in the heartland of tobacco, Virginia. 3 cents compared to $2.46 in Rhode Island? I'll take the former.

Those are just the taxes on top of the price of the cigs... so no, they're not that cheap

All I gotta say is that FUCK you texas, I'm in Washington state and I pay 6$ on average for smokes, quit your bitching. talk about a humble experience with the canada payments though. ouch.

I just dont see why smokers have to bear the brunt, this sounds dumb but why not a fat tax or a sin tax?

because a fat tax would be immoral and just wrong (even though it would bring in a ridiculous amount of revenue since everyone in the US is fat) and the sin tax would be like the church coming in and saying you had to empty your wallets cuz you offended God . . .

Anyways, I'm all for taxes on drugs since it forces people to rethink doing them, especially tobacco. I wonder how high or low the taxes would be if ganja were legalized and sold in various outlets.
