Growing Outdoors

So Im thinking about going this route, how would I start.

I figure I germinate at home.

Then plant the seed straight into the plot.

Then water it every week or so and feed it.

But then what stops it from staying in the veg state continously. After a month of growing with no control on lighting how can I induce flowering in the outdoors?

It happens all on its own, just like it did for millions of years before electric lights were invented. The plant detects the shortening of the days, and flowering begins, usually about early August.
