Age old question (to me at least)

Greetings fellow smokers,


My question regards "pruning" your plants at all stages during growth. Im in the mountains with alot of backwoods growers that have been growing for a long time but to be honest, all the harvests i have seen pale in comparison to what i see you guys doing online. I believe this is largely due to the fact that people around here pick the fan leaves off their plants constantly. Even to the point that the plant looks naked. They usually pick and smoke these fan leaves because they are dry and its free. (Even tho it usually takes 3 or 4 joints per person to recieve any effect) I belive this is hurting the plants but then again im the "New Grower" with only 2 seasons under my belt. Who am I to argue with these experienced tokers? Will somebody please clear up my confusion on the proper pruning of your plants?

Their yields are prolly also hurt because they use whatever seeds they can find in the bottom of the sack they just bought from joe blow down the street.

I pick my fanleaves off and i get very good yields. I dont agree with pruning during flowering.

Their yields being shitty has nothing to do with the pruning, it has to do with their technique of growing. Just dropping a seed and letting the plant grow on its own, especially keeping it in regular daytime/nighttime cycle will cause the plant to flower sooner than we do here on the forum...

Suggest you look at thread called "For those who disbelieve" in the Advanced growing section.... I've been thru this topic numerous times already...

And its not only me doing it, but you will find this out as you read the thread.

Now for proper pruning.

1. you only prune the leaves thats needed to be pruned off to allow for better light to get to the bottom growth.

2. You dont (at least i have never tried it) prune during flowering.

In the thread i sent you too, this was just to clear up confusion about taking off fan leafs slows the growth of the plant and that it will also die. Believe i have proven otherwise in the thread.

I have been doing this outdoors for at least 6 years now and trust me, it works, My largest Yield on ONE plant was 1.2 pounds (PPP, Purple Power Plant) naturally if you get some rag weed seed and toss it in god knows what kind of soil and depend only on the daylight hours you cant expect much from the plant.

Also there are other members trying my technique and have had good results (except those with heavy watering hands)

I guess until you try it yourself and not look at other (i will call them idiots) you should not judge a technique.

Fimming and Topping was once thought to not be good technique as well and now its common place amongst growers.

I am really learning alot from the site, and without a doubt my crop this year will be greatly improved by it.

Normal procedure around here is as follows:

Any seed you got laying around
5 Gal bucket
Dirt from the garden
Miracal grow every other watering
Human hair spread around as a animal deterent


I hope to get a little more technical, put a little more care, and start with better materials to get a HQ yeild. If I can come anywhere near your "Marley Christmas Tree" harvest, i would be estatic and elevated to "god-like" status around here to my fellow growers LOL. well I wouldn't use anything but organic ferts! Thats just my opinion and alot of people around here's. Also its not just as easy as ferting every other water. just a little something for you to look into!

You're probably better off using miracle grow if it's your first run. Very easy and extremely cheap. And when used correctly can give pretty good results. Organics are better but more intensive to mix and deliver. You can remove some fan leaves for better light penetration to new growth but concentrate on the uppermost fans if you do this. Removing lower fan leaves is counterproductive as not much developing growth will be found there.
