Earliest time to harvest?
Ok, so for the past couple of years I have been habitually planting marijuana in a small, overgrown vacant area in my neighborhood. I believe the strain is Northern Lights--at least, that's what my more experienced stoner friends have told me (I pulled about 20 seeds out of a quad I bought sophomore year from a shady dealer...thus I can be none too sure of the strain).
I usually let about 5 seeds do their thing untended around the plot, except for some watering during dry spells (Chicago weather is erratic). I harvest them the first weekend in October, typically.
I planted at the end of May. This year, however, I'll be leaving for college at the end of August. If I harvest the females then, will they not be ready to smoke? I'm fine with having a smaller yield or less potent bud if I harvest them early, but if they'll be completely unsmokeable, I'll give them as a "present" to one of the other neighborhood kids.
Any thoughts?
