fert. question

i heard that the n fert should be higher then the P and K for the ratio (and that the P and K fert. should be more or less the same.) i have soil thats 64/21/10. could i use this for the veg. stage? and is there anything i could add that had (P) and (K) in it if that was not enough.

64 seems high for the nitrogen. i use 20/20/20 for the veg phase, and then add some 2-1-4. but for the flowering phase i lower the nitrogen to about 10, raise the phohphorus to about 30-40, and keep the potassium about 20-30.

Should those numbers have a decimal point in front of them? Does it read N=.65, P=.21, & K=.10? With that much nitrogen your plants would be on fire. lol

The ratio of macronutrients depends on the stage of the plant's growth. Vegetative growth is primarily asexual rep. of chlorophyllous tissue. Since Nitrogen (either as nitrate or ammonium nitrate) is a component of chloropyllous tissue synthesis - you are going to want to have a higher ratio of N for veg.

I generally use a an organic based fert for both veg and flowering - with a lower concentration (in order to prevent toxication). If you want to 'suppliment' for macronutrients then i would suggest Fish emulsion for N, Bat guano for P, and Worm castings for K. This supplimentation might not be enough to work for a 'stand alone' fert so that is why i recommend you go with an organic based fert like Fox Farm.

Go with Fox Farm Grow Big for Veg, and FF Tiger Bloom (2-8-4) and/or Big Bloom for FLowering.

General rule of thumb is that you need higher N for veg growth, and higher P/K for blooming. Just stay away from insanely potent chem ferts, because you will most likely burn the shit out of them.
