If you had a greenhouse in your backyard?

you wouldnt need no lights and could just grown bushes in there am i correct? the sunlight would shine right through the greenhouse and be the best light for the weed. right?

I am setting up a greenhouse as well. Not many people use them, or the ones that do are not posting in the GC forum. Here is what I know from my research so far..

I live in So. Cali. where the summer time high temps are from 85-105 from July-Sept/Oct.
I know what I am building my greenhouse out of material wise, but am still researching the best ways to vent/exhaust it because it will get PLENTY hot inside. If done correctly a greenhouse is a great way to grow weed yes, but the heat issue I am sure is similar to growing indoors, you must bring in lot's of fresh air when needed to control temps. This is done with thermostatically controlled fans.

It still will not help you grow during the winter months due to the light spectrum is not correct for Veg. growth, so added lights with blue spectrum would be needed if you intended on growing during the red/orange spectrum light months of fall throughout winter.

You can grow earlier in the spring and get a nice early spring crop and I would say a small seedling/sexing/cloning op. inside with CFL's will allow some nice girls to be put in the greenhouse early in spring for a May/June Harvest and then another batch for a fall harvest...

I have lot's of research links for types of frames, coverings, foundations/etc.. if your needing anything private msg me and i'll hook ya up with the links man..

peace

Re: If you had a greenhouse in your backyard?

Here is one.

Harbor Freight greenhouse reenforced with pressyre treated lumber. Helps in high wind areas. $299.99 on sale + lumber ? maybe $500.00 total.

Irrigated and timed. $90 - $100

Solar attic fan from Home Deopt. Sun is up, fan goes on, sun sets, fan goes off. $65.

Less high tech some. No heaters or thermostats. No C02 or hydro systems.

But It works fine for me.
Total = less than $700

Re: If you had a greenhouse in your backyard?

the good green houses in your heat, still have A/C in them.
Especially if you want bigger.
Find a split System A/C or a window unit.

Yeah I think I am going to just put a window unit in, I already have one so it makes it easy.
I'm going to use Solexx Panels (same stuff Lowe's uses to cover their garden area's. Sorta pricey but I believe worth the cost.

Solexx Greenhouse Panels from Farm Wholesale Greenhouses

Re: If you had a greenhouse in your backyard?

Inside is a raised bed of amended soil. Used cinder block to raise the greenhouse up about 1 foot. Helped me be able to move around inside, and made for great planting area. Small path down the middle.

Natural ventelation works fine for me but I dont have the high temps that you guys do in the valley.
& I do have misters hung from the rafters for those really warm days.

Pics show a great variety of kitchen vegies and herbs.
But all kinds of things grow well in here.
