New to growing

I'm growing for the first time with a friend of mine, and we are looking at it as an experiment. If it works, sweet we got some bud, if not then no big deal. I've been reading a lot on GC about ferts and stuff like that, and I was wondering can I get away with just putting my plants in the ground with some good soil and watering it. Are ferts and stuff like that necessary or are the just used to increase yield. I live in Florida so it's pretty tropical here. Thanks.

Re: New to growing

hey man, dont worry too much about ferts and all that right now if u dont want to just as long as u dig big holes for them to loosen the soil up so they can get oxygen and spread roots easier then add your own soil(preferably) the first soil i ever used was miracle grow for african violets and it feeds for 3 or 4 months and its cheap and thats the one mg soil i havent had problems with.

and if you really want you can throw a fish on the bottom and ur set

then later on as u get more and more excited about your nugs you can add molassis when she hits flowering to boost the phosphor+sugar to increase yeild

and youve got yourself some nugs...but dont just think once its in the ground its fine you will most likely have to water it yourself at least weekly and then i would advise you to look into lst(low stress training)

its a weed it loves to grow i found a plant in the sand in the road in front of my house once it doesnt take too much and everyones gunna say u need this u need that but all of the advanced stuff is for heavy yeilds, experimenting and knowing what to do if something happens. just take care of it like a child and im sure you will be happy with the outcome

and if i could suggest a book id go to borders and get yourself jorge cervantes' medical marijuana growers bible ...when you do u can detach yourself from this site lol

p.s. are you germinating first? i forgot to suggest the you should germ and get some healthy little month olds before sticking them in the ground when i was 15 i threw probably 300 seeds in these woods near my house like i was feeding chickens lol and obviously nothing happened it makes it a lot easier to start it when your not dealing with helpless babys lol push them out of the nest as teenagers lol

Yea, like the above post said. I wouldn't use ferts or nutes until you know what you are doing. As they are not the big of a deal if you are doing this for personal smoke.

Plants are like any living thing: they need to eat too. Ferts aren't necessary per se but will help, protect your plants and will allow them to veg. and flower properly to get a much bigger yield. If your spot already has rich soil, they might not need a lot of food but it's unlikely to have rich soil, stealth , sun, water at the same location. It's best to amend a nice spot with a good soil mix 1-2 months in advance. You need manures and meals and some time to attract micro organisms for the organics to work best. As long as you'e taking the risk imo, might as well do a few but by the book to get the most and best out of the operation.

Fertilizing isn't that hard. You can find organic NPK at your local nursery (do with what's available look for OMRI certified for organics). You don't need to feed them in the first month as long as you have something in the soil (worm castings, compost).

Growing (or "veg"):You can feed 1/5 th of strength of N at 2-3 weeks. After 1 month, move to 3 gallon pots with a little richer mix (manures, meals, w.c.), water 1/4 strength with a veg. tea after 2-3 weeks. Then plain water then a 1/3 dosage etc...

Flowering (or "budding" lol): A good flowering nute is important when budding starts. Flow. nutes won't trigger early budding so wait until they actually start budding before using them (beg. Aug). Stop the veg. nutes around mid July. Use flow. nutes 3-4 times in flow. period. Finish with molasses. Always alternate 1 nute tea, then 2-3 plain waterings. Don't forget epsom salts.

Careful: To avoid burning, always water soil with plain water (esp. if it's very dried out) before you add a fert tea (roots get moistened with plain water before the ferts are applied: no stress). Although with organics the risk of burn is much less, you can kill them with a high concentrated organic. Good luck.
