Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

Sounds good. The canal digging might be too vidible and not blend it. Other than that, sounds good. Coco is better thzan peat as it has a good ph among other adv.

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

One caution with coco pete is that it can hold too much water when used unmixed for potting up (50% max in a mix), my local hydro shop now recommends coco crop circles instead of coco pete, these are much coarser and less prone to water logging, nearly cost me some nice plants. Re-potting with a more open mix sorted my drowning plants. But your right about the ph, very stable with coco as they are stabilised to about 6-6.5 ph at manufacture.

Gonna fill my drain with rocks and gravel then turf over the top, the gravel should stop my nice soil being washed away and clogging. A small plank could also be used in drier weather to stop the runoff by blockin the entrance to the drain.

I also use the grass turves I dug out to cammo the top of my holes, I learned this with my riverside grow as it is unfortunately quiet obvious due to the yellow mulch I'm using but only visible from above thankfully. Though I had little choice as the native soil is home to lots of nettles and little else. Any ideas on how to colour/cammo the mulch?

Turves aren't too hard to dig either as the topsoil comes away from the clay substrate very easily. Luckily there are very few weeds to compete. Makes your plants look real natural.

Thanks for the input, will certainly let you know how I go with this one as all the plants in this site are nice dutch seedstock. Fingers crossed until harvest.

Keep it green.

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

If you buy some I would ask in the shop if its sterilised to make sure it doesnt have bugs in and also ask if it will need flushing as some coco products have salt in them. Most of it is manufactured in India I believe. Quality as always is essential. Have been looking for the link for the brand I use but cant recall the address, maybe some memory loss creepin in there

It really does soak up the water though, a large housebrick size coco pete block (about 1.5litres) will absorb about 4-5 litres of water before saturation. For water retention the pete bricks are best as the round 6inch 'crop circles' are more coarse with large particles and can be used as a singular grow medium which holds less water. You can also buy the pete bricks in larger bales.

Check the lower half of the above article for a proper scientific grow report.

Keep it green.

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

In the early stages of plant development is it helpful to place a clear glass over the plant ? I heard this from a friend and not sure what to make of it.

I don't think so because you won't get the whole spectrum of the sun. It should be direct sun light. The clear glass/plastic can be good for cold temperatures in Spring though.

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

ahh thanks for the pointer ma friend. What are the chances of a germinated seed growing outdoors when it has been raining and so forth i had 2 pots going and i think thay may have been over watered and died. Whats perhaps a better way to start the seeds?

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

Have them under your watch in 1st month in an airy soil mix, that's it. Planning is very important. Good luck and keep it simple.

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

whats up GC
u guys have been so heplfull on my 1st outdoor plot, thx again!

id like to have some suggestions about the chicken wires around my ladies; they're about 2 ft tall and bushy(some staked some not), ive cut some openings in chickenwire so the branch and the fan leaves can grow through, so would it be safe to leave the chickenwire on, or i should get rid of it?

and would u recommend using a neemoil, soap, garlic solution or apple juice to spray for parasites prevention measures? i had aphids attacking my clones while they were inside, but it seems they've dissapeared since ive put them outside, looks like the food chain is in effects around my plot, ive seen fireflies, dragonflies, ladybugs around; so im wondering if its possible to pass by parasites without spraying anything?

Re: Outdoor Grow Guide

Thanks for the long post very helpful. Any advice on outdoor growing starting in late summer? is it a waste of time or is there still a potential for healthy hearty yields?

I'm (we're) willing to help but I don't know on what topic LOL! Plants started in July yield about 1-2 oz with good conditions. Good luck!
