Cutting Bigger, mature buds to fatten up the Popcorns...

Well ill start off with the weather & temps now as i dont know if it will affect this method at all.

At the moment its getting to around 4-5 degrees C at night. Hasn't frosted yet and the weather reports havnt predicted one yet either. Mostly dry, with some downpours every few days. Sunny spells through cloud and there are a few times when theres quite a lot of wind, the plants are quite well protected from this though as the wind cant touch them from the direction it normally blows in on. Basicly typical shitty English Autumn weather!

Ok, so to my question. Does the method of cutting off the big bud at the top of the main cola, or the bigger, fatter buds allow for the smaller 'popcorn' buds to fatten out? I've read this a few times on here now and i was wondering if i could get more opinions from EXPERIENCED growers about this.

That means you people who havent actually grown before, please dont comment. I dont want this to sound harsh or anything because i too had never grown untill a few months ago, i just want to get the most out of my babies now (and not fuck them up because some inexperienced wannabe grower told me shitty info)!

Cheers, im looking forward to your replys/Opinions on this one .

D.

Re: Cutting Bigger, mature buds to fatten up the Popcorns...

I'm still learning with every cycle of plants, but in my experience, cutting the large, mature buds on the ends of the branches and from the main stem will allow the smaller, less developed buds further down the stems to get more light and air and they will gain in mass. Be sure to use a clean, sharp pruning shear and cut the woody stems cleanly. I never noticed any bleeding.

One thing though is that trichomes may already be near their peak on the smaller buds as well. If that's the case, harvest the skinny buds and just put them in a different jar. They cut up real good for rolling joints.

With plants I'm keeping, I always leave the popcorn buds on to fatten up. They will more then triple in size. I've been doing this for the past 4 or 5 seasons. However, I've never had to worry about frost. I don't know how frost will effect it. I'd say give it a try and see how it works.

Cheers for the replies guys.

Much appreciated.

Well, im getting my mag' glass early next week, so unless frost is predicted before then, im going to check my trichs when it comes and decide what to do from there.

They do look almost ready though i just want the smaller buds to fatten up a little.

If the large buds are ready i will chop them and leave some of the smaller buds on, how many i do leave depends on maturity though. Its going to be more of an experiment than anything. its fun, like being back in school again for a science experiment on a pigs heart or something stupid that youve never done before. im getting really excited haha

This is my first grow and ive learnt a lot already but this could just be one more thing to add to my new knowledge. Im really looking forward to seeing how it goes ..

It does work like that. I remember my first grow that produced buds. It was way back in like 1990. It was indoor, in dirt. I was awed at the buds we grew. I've learned so much over the years. That first harvest was a joke compared to now. Watch and see, the more times you grow, the better it gets. However, I wish we would have started taking notes along time ago about how the different strains grow.
devilishfatcat and brainfart (and anyone else who's harvesting), have fun with your first harvests!

O dont worry i will .

Im planning on keeping a record of my strains from next year onwards, i think it would be cool if in a few years i could look back at pictures, kind of like a scrap book, of the life of the plants with pictures and detailed descriptions. Basicly a private grow journal in a folder or something..

I wouldve started this year, but i am lacking a good camera and a strain i actually know the name of (im using bagseed). Lowryder is obvuiosly not really worth keeping a record of, it would probably be easier to grow it again to refresh my memory it finishes that quick haha.

Ive been looking around for early strains for next year and i swear i change my mind every time i sign in haha... Im definately buying one of the nirvana early strains.. probably misty. But im looking for a nice indica too that will finish early ish, around mid-late september in England. Hopefully one thats relatively mould resistant too..

Any suggestions? i know most people on here dont seem to live in the UK but ideas would be great!

Northern lights?

Re: Cutting Bigger, mature buds to fatten up the Popcorns...

Definitely Feeling the "Love" on this thread! I'm really looking forward to "giving" this season. Especially cause my "bagseed" seeds came from some friends who are really heavy tokers. They have no idea what has happened since early spring. I cant wait till I see they're eyes light up when I give them some Donald Trump Huge nuggets.
I'm in awe of these plants, I wish I could take most of the credit. But, all I did was give them water & a sunny home. I occasionally ponder the first people who threw some of this plant on their fire! That must have been an intersting day in the village! Peace !

Wow... nice vibes here. I am right with Harry B. My bagseed babies are looking great. I am already planning next year. I think that bud growing is as rewarding as bud smoking.
