From what I understand, x30 will suit you just fine. I have heard of some people using x60. Anything larger than that and the power will just make things fuzzy...

actually over 30x does not make it blurry at all. Just more detailed.

I think what size magnification you have is trivial. As long as you can see the trichomes well enough to evaluate their color, it doesn't really matter...

I use a H. E. Harris & Co Wide Field 16x loupe model 1020. It's been workling great for me for about 8 years. The only thing I don't like is you have to get way up close, like you see jewelers do. I have a pocket microscope - X30, which does the job just fine. Got it on line for a few euros.
Also have a X9 watchmakers eyeglass which I use for preflowers.
