Opinions on lake water...

What do you guys think of using lake water for watering the plants? I would add nutrients to it...

Would there be pH problems?
Nutrient problems?

Re: Opinions on lake water...

If fish can live in it, it is bound to be OK for MJ.

do check the pH. Depending on the geology there could be a lot of alkaloids dissolved in it. Alternately if there is a lot of decaying vegetation it could drop the pH significantly. Should be good but it wouldn't hurt to check.

Ok but not good? So it wouldn't be ideal?

I will be checking the pH. I do know there are a lot of fish and wildlife in the area. If the pH is not good, I will probably just bring my own water.

I am thinking of either tap water or lake water. In the case of tap water, I will let it sit out for 24 hours in order for the chlorine to evaporate. I would prefer to use the lake water, lugging the water in myself would be a huge hassle.

I'd prefer lake water over tap water.

the main reason would be you won't have to carry it from the house. an added benefit would be the lack of chlorine, fluoride, and any number of chelating agents etc.

Re: Opinions on lake water...

Check the pH of the water. 6.5 is pretty good for MJ plants.

It'd be fine to use... unless it's Lake Micgican. Heh.

Re: Opinions on lake water...

i think the ph of the water you use depends on your soil as well. for example if your water is 6.5 and your soil is 5.5, it probably wouldnt hurt to use water that was on the alkaline side just not too high. using lake water i think it is generally acidic atleast the rain water around here is. thats one of the reasons the ph around here is so low. i really wouldnt worry about it to be honest. if your growing near pine trees, the soil will usually prety acidic and id spread some garden lime around the plot. then i bet water wouldnt be that big of a deal. i think ph is way overestimated. pot is a weed and it will grow with what it gets.

Me too, greenmeany. I never measure pH, and my plants donīt seem to care. But I am a heretic anyway.
People who get 2 ounces a plant will probably now appear and warn me about nute lockout and other such stuff.

Re: Opinions on lake water...

I think I will check the pH to start to make sure the water is suitable. I won't worry about it too much.
