Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

I imagine a lot of people out there are like me, regardless of what we might be passionate about growing indoors, we don't just stop there. We have gardens full of stuff the neighbors are allowed to see. And, if you're like me, I like to practice organic gardening in my little vegetable patch.

What I'm wondering is how many of us there are around here that grow food as well as medicine, and of those who do what methods we employ to do it. I would imagine that our unique set of expertise lends itself very favorably to outdoor gardening as well, whether it's organic or not.

I use the same stuff outside that I use inside, for two reasons. First, I know that it works damn well. Second, this way if someone ever comments on what I buy from the store I've got a legitimate use to point to. I've made a point of chatting with the neighbors about how much I like the Iguana Juice and other stuff I use in the garden, so they can be alibis.

So let's hear it. Do you do some "legit" gardening? Do you go organic or not? What products do you prefer for that? As I mentioned above, I think pretty highly of Advanced Nutrients. How 'bout you?

Re: Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

I have been growing pot organically for years. This is only the third year I have grown vegetables in my garden. This is our garden from `07. As you can see on the left, we grow my medicinal marijuana here. We grow everything all organic. Our first year things didn't grow well. Our second year (this pic) everything grew great. This year things did worse of all. However, we were covered in a smoke cloud for 2 months during the vegetative cycle. Everyone's garden was effected. The only difference between the 3 years is before year 2 we added 1.5 yards of mushroom compost to our 30'x35' garden and tilled it in. Before planting each year we till in a 25lb bag of an organic mix which includes things like: bat quano, sea kelp, worm casting, trace neutrients, etc. We don't really supplement them during the season except we will hit the marijuana plants with some Earth Juice Bloom at the start of flowering.

Re: Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

Gardening is my passion. I grow tomatoes, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, several varietys of perrers, cantalope, ect. I had 48 tomatoe plants this year. I give most away to the old people that can garden anymore, but still like te fresh veggies. My favorite Organic ferts are, Blood meal, bone meal, wood ash, and about 4'' of rabbit manure spread evenly over the entire garden. Dont know what it is about the rabbit shit, but everything thrives in it. Even an ocasional seven bladed plant.

Re: Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

I only grew a few tomato pts with chems but now, thanks to GC, I learned more. I like the all organic idea. It's Raaastafaray! Good tips. ("I only grow tomatoes and squash" GM). Ha. Stoned .

Re: Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

That's a really nice-looking little garden patch you've got there puffpuffere. I wish I could do something like that. That fencing you've got... is it to discourage little furry pests or the taller, balder ones?

My garden this year was a temporary thing, I rent so I can't really plan anything long-term. Next year I'm going to do a lot of containers I think, so if I move I can take my garden with me. I just feed them with the left-over water from my hydroponics reservoirs. So it's not organic, though they do get a little organic stuff too. My indoor stuff is all Advanced Nutrients fed, so the outdoor garden gets the leftovers from that.

It seems to work really well, got a big load of tomatoes and peppers this year.

Here's my garden, all potted, all organic, as well as on an automated irrigation system.

Actually, the fence is to protect the garden from the dogs and pig. They have the roam of the entire perimeter of my home and property My fenced in garden is within that perimeter . The fence also discourages anyone getting any ideas about theft.

Organic Hydroponic Nutrient

There's some pretty nice looking gardens out there. Am I the only one using hydroponic nutrients in mine, well aside from Aeroherbs who uses the waste solution?

I've just had such great success indoors that I had to see if I could duplicate them outdoors. (I most definitely did.)

It's hard to find good organic hydroponic nutrients so I guess I'm just a bit of a fanboy where it comes to the stuff that finally worked properly.

Re: Organic Gardening - Who Does it?

Am I just really old or is it sensible to assume someone's talking about college if they say they have a garden at school?

Back in my day there wasn't a lot of gardening in highschool... but then they've been lowering the bar every year for decades. I think you have to have to demonstrate the ability to get your pants on (backwards or forwards) and not choke on your own drool to get a diploma these days.

Hell, you don't even have to know how to pull your pants up...
