Re: Tips?tricks?Fromm Experinced Outdoor growers
its good that youre reading up. you really should use google as your search tool. i found wayy more information through google than this forum. ill help you out with your seach. this site gives good outdoor tips, such as where to plant etc. also, check out google books (search "jorge cervantes outdoor" and you will find a useful book on how to plant outdoors. search search search, read, read read but experience overpowers both of those tenfold.

No you and Corto Maltese, Corto and Corto Malteze. You both have posted good info but rub each other the wrong way. You guys made a good team on this thread complimenting each others info. I hope it stays this way cause poor Corto is running out of alternate ID's. lol Peace to both all of you.
This year is almost over so I suggest you look towards next year. Location is everything. I like to go on hikes this time of year and scope for new spots. The one problem I have with spots found in the Summertime is they change as fall approaches. By this I mean foliage that provide coverage and camouflage start to die off now and a plant that is well hidden in July can stick out like a sore thumb in Sept/Oct. It is also better to do the hard work in cool Fall weather than hot summer days. Stay away from anywhere that will be high traffic areas such as trails or close proximity to bodies of water. My philosophy is to go against all your instincts in the woods, and make it as diffucult, and uncomfortable to get to. Use common sense when picking spot as far as soil goes if other plants are growing healthily it is probably a good enough spot. Once you have plot established I like to visit in inclement weather less people outdoors in the rain. Do not visit too often and try to mix up your route so as not to make a trail to your spot. Never leave anything man made in your plot and cover any BARE DIRT around your plants. DO NOT TELL A SOUL. Beyond this any other advice is dependant on your regions climate, soil, and strain you grow. Once you have established a healthy plot and get a succesful grow in then you can fine tune the small stuff. Use the search engines on this site and check grow journals and see what has worked for others, seeing is believing. Keep reading bro and use this winter as a motivator to grow some dank next year. Takinhits, glad to see you have returned. My earlier comment was that a surprising number of people, often those without any history of posts, start a thread, and never return to see the responses. I did give them a week!! Read my link on magnesium deficiency.

Hahaha! That's a good one CB. Chris Berman ain't bad Patriofarmer! Takinhits, pots vs. ground is another debate. Main advantage with pots: you can move them around and get a clean spot with no tracks (crucial) towards the end of the season. Although not accepted, I put 4 or 5 mjs (indicas fror me) in a 40 l. trash can. Of my 3 pots I got 1 with 3, 1 with 2, 1 with 5 fems. I had 5 hermies out of the 15(due to the pots??? I don't know). Then I move the pots around with a wheel barrow (heavy) but can be moved on foot -did it for one-. So only one trip to move several plants. But smaller 1 plant pots are good too. You can cut out bottom so roots continue but I didn't do that (plastic too thick and it was too much of a pb to flip over the trash can with plants to cut out bottom!!!)). Instead I added crates around the top and added soil there (I did little cuts around the stems where the new earth was added in August so roots could start from the top -don't know if they actually did). Once plants are lst'd (tied down) all around the trash can, they have room in the air to grow well. My buds are getting really thick and mjs don't seem root bound or anything. During the big heat wave I put cork plugs so water wouldn't escape and I was also able to place them more in the shade when I went on vacation. This saved them as they were almost dead when I came back. Place pots halfway in soil so they don't get too hot. You don't have to dig up earth (rocks etc...) as you just put your own in pots. Disadvantage: less growth than if they were in soil. Can get root bound (especially with sativas I guess). I tried in the ground once and the plants were really huge and budding like crazy (they were sativas). This year I did it more discrete. About the pH, I don't really do that since I bring my own soil. You can have your soil tested or buy a ph tester. Ph should be in a certain range (? 6-7?? look it up). If not, you get nute lock, plants can't eat or can die (burned). If pines grow there it's acidic (no good). Look for lush vegetation (green, grass, flowers ... and check earth with your hands - make a ball and see if it's crumbly or firm). I don't know about vinegar etc... Old Pork uses epsom salts and he grows "the shit". Your soil needs to be a little fluffy (if too much clay, add builder's sand, perlite, peat), if sandy add compost, clay dirt etc... You want a good drainage but also a good retention (worm castings and peat, vermi for that). Add a layer of gravel if you use pots for drainage. Add a tarpaulin (half way so roots can continue on upper half of the hole) at bottom hole in soil if your region gets very hot in summer (saves trips). Brown Dirt puts plastic bags with holes at bottom to retain water. This isn't exhaustive of course. Just my experience and thoughts. Good luck. Last edited by Corto Malteze; 09-18-2008 at 12:17 PM.
